    I'm getting more and more pisssed that people who post these gifs don't AT LEAST make a comment inside that has a link to the source video. Why do we all hate videos these days? They take not much longer to load, have sound, you can link to the correct point, and you can still get karma...

    I don't get it. =(

    Reddit really needs a meta section when making a post that allows you to cite a source so that this could all be automated.

    I think a lot of it has to do with the rise in mobile users.

    Opening a video link on your phone (usually) requires you to launch a separate app to play the video, making it somewhat cumbersome to return to where you were.

    Speaking from personal experience, more than half the time I'm on mobile I'm in a situation where I don't want or can't have audio.

    Ok, but if you want to dig into it, karma is just a general response of "I like this." People like things that are easily consumable in the widest variety of situations. It's easier to consume a gif than it is a video for many people.

    Hell, if I'm on my home computer I can hit "show all images" and consume gifs in my feed. I can't do that with videos.

    It literally made video uploading possible. Before that I was getting shit off like Kazaa or watching RealVideo pseudo.net streams like GameTime (precursor to AllGames and then G4tv, shoutout to Scot Rubin (wikipedia page) and Jim Downs! Thanks for the Bacon Wave after winning on Thunk! (old Pseudo gameshow with chat stream/prizes, circa 1999ish) Your head is full of junk!     edit: Holy shit. I just realized that Scott from GeekNights is "Scott Rubin" while Scot from G4 is "Scot Rubin".     I guess the cats think that the mask is a) realistic and b)the owner killed a cat to make it. They are scared because they don't want to be that cat or possibly the bigger the cat is. The more threatening they are.
