Maybe not the best box-to-box yet, but top 5 no doubt, maybe top 3. Best overall midfielder though? I'd say yes.

I mean for example Vidal is a better box-to-box but isn't as good as an attacking mid. Likewise Marchisio is a better box-to-box and is equal or close to Pogba's attacking skills but defensively is not as good. I would say honestly the closest midfielder to Pogba is Nainggolan.

I don't think there is any exact alternative to Pogba at the moment. I mean it would take 3 players arguably to equal what he can do. For the sake of discussion, I would say Matuidi's engine and general defensive skills, Rodriguez's dribbling and shooting skills and Kroos's passing and playmaking in one generalized package create Pogba.

Don't get me wrong, these 3 are better at these skills individually than Pogba but Pogba can do all of it and at a high level too. You could say currently he is the most complete midfielder in world football. The perfect 10/8/6 hybrid.

Well first I never stated it was you exactly downvoting mine and your comments, it was more an open question.

And the reason I care is because people downvote just because they disagree, which is not what downvotes are for. It also means that valid conversations are hidden because people don't agree with what was said. It is a real problem with this sub but also reddit in general and that annoys me.

Yeah but even if they occupy the same position, doesn't mean they can't co-exist. I doubt Conte will stick with one for the entire season, plus what if one of them gets injured?

Don't forgot that Chelsea will most likely play in the CL next year and a Kante/Matic pair would provide good depth for multiple competitions.

Matic and Kante are different types of midfielders though, Matic being the destroyer-type defensive mid and Kante the mobile box-to-box mid. If anything Kante is very similar to Schneiderlin rather than Matic. I would imagine Matic staying tbh (or even becoming a CB perhaps?) but if not then I am not 100% I want him.

He's a central midfielder like Vidal. Can play CDM and CAM but his best position is as a box-to-box midfielder - similar to Pogba in that regards.
