For those that tuned in late...

What is /r/IndiaUnplugged? Just /r/India but without any rules. (except the basic ones from Reddit)

Your posts won't be removed because:

  • It is not related to India

  • You editorialized the title of the submission

  • Self post with just a link

Additionally

  • No moderation of comments

  • No TIL rules

We started an experiment on /r/IndiaUnplugged to see if we could phase out any of our rules. The sub is now up and running, and has a set of volunteer moderators. Traffic stats and mod logs on /r/IndiaUnplugged are public as part of the effort.

/u/bhiliyam has coded up an x-poster bot that will periodically pull posts from /r/india and cross post them to seed the new sub with content. The linkbacks are non-participant to avoid skewing and OPs are credited for the posts. Join the conversation in the comments and feel free to contribute links and self posts as well.

Ultimately the success of the experiment hinges on your participation so please join us in this effort.

May I suggest mods to use simpler language? The earlier one & this too sounds vague. Your efforts are honest but if you are unable to connect, most average redditors will miss the plot. Sorry if I sounded rude or acted entitled.

This has fail written all over. I don't even see the point of having another sub reddit and the cross posting is just lame. My suggestion stop spamming with the cross posting thing and let people who want to post stuff there post there.

Serious question: What's the point of the new sub? If anything r/india content would be better by filtering out low effort comments and / or trolls. With 0 moderation isn't there a good chance /r/IndiaUnplugged turns into /r/bakchodi?

This is a very valid concern. While our goal is to have a less moderated place than /r/india, we will certainly not let that sub to turn into /r/bakchodi either. We want to have fewer rules, with more accountability (moderation logs of the sub are public, we will not delete our criticism or other meta posts). The 0 moderation thing is a good starting point, and we can add some sane rules one by one if need arises. At all times, we will try to keep the rules few and simple.

Even though the effort in creating a crossposter is commendable, there is no point in doing it if there is no discussion that happens in that sub. A new sub will need a long time to attain critical mass.

In my opinion rather than new sub the mods can relax a rule for some duration without announcing and see if it is being misused and then take a cal if the rule is necessary. You can roll it out one rule at a time.

I'm not quite on board with a crossposter bot. It's just filling the sub up without any discussions. People might pitch in more for unique submissions.
