Saw this movie today. Theatre wasnt sold out, but decently packed.
[–]nyctibius 0 points1 point2 points  (1 child)
The movie was okay right?
People just hated it because the makers "ruined" their childhood movie ..
[–]_Underoath_ 2 points3 points4 points  (0 children)
Honestly I think a lot of people hate on it because the trailer for it was horrendous
[–]FindMeTheTruth[S] comment score below threshold-11 points-10 points-9 points  (4 children)
Again, since this thread is being brigaded, can you tell us which cinema this is? Because we will easily be able to see what the current seating availability is online.
[–]BabaOrly 5 points6 points7 points  (2 children)
Yeah, people not buying into your "evidence" is definitely proof of brigading.
[–]FindMeTheTruth[S] comment score below threshold-7 points-6 points-5 points  (1 child)
I'd say the high upvotes of the thread despite the desperate downvote brigading is shutting down that little deflection there, buddy. And the downvoting a brand new post within seconds to -5.
But if you're going to try and rant about "evidence", you probably should try to make sense, since asking for evidence isn't me "selling evidence".
It's pretty hilarious how salty users like you are getting over simply asking which cinema.
[–]BabaOrly 1 point2 points3 points  (0 children)
There are hundreds of thousands of people on Reddit at any given moment, and you're a tool. Do the math. And what's more hilarious your inability to understand that 25 out of thousands is not statistically significant. And since you're the guy who posted up 25 tweets as proof that no one likes Ghostbusters, you are, in fact, selling evidence. Why should anyone be willing to do the legwork to disprove something you didn't even do the legwork to prove?
[–]EarlTubb 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
You might consider getting a grip.
[–]FindMeTheTruth[S] comment score below threshold-20 points-19 points-18 points  (4 children)
Which theater was this? Because we can readily check todays seating availability online to determine.
Edit: Downvoted by the same users praising this through the thread without one actually providing a single cinema.
[–]vampireweeknd 9 points10 points11 points  (0 children)
Sounds like you're having a fun Saturday night.
[–]ChefDeezy 3 points4 points5 points  (0 children)
dude you need to spend a little less time on how many people went to see ghostbusters.
[–]rocker2014 6 points7 points8 points  (0 children)
Ya know, I saw a movie 2 weeks ago that had 2 seats sold in the theater on Fandango went I went to select it only hours before showtime... 2. Got to the theater and there wasn't an open seat in the place. Most people buy their tickets at the theater still. That is not an accurate way to judge at all.
[–]avatarkorrapark 5 points6 points7 points  (0 children)
Believe it or not, not everyone orders tickets online in advance, and not every theater chain reports or even keeps track of the seating at every showing.
[–]BabaOrly 17 points18 points19 points  (3 children)
The best way to end up in an empty theater is to go in the middle of the working day during the week. Which an awful lot of these people did. I don't care if you love or hate the movie and I don't care why, but come the fuck on.
[–]vampireweeknd 6 points7 points8 points  (0 children)
Reddit has hit the denial stage.
[–]FindMeTheTruth[S] comment score below threshold-13 points-12 points-11 points  (1 child)
Please feel free to pick a cinema and date you think it'll be packed on so we can see if their seating is empty or not.
[–]BabaOrly 3 points4 points5 points  (0 children)
I don't know or care whether the movie will be a flop, you're the one with all the skin in this game. Your evidence of 25 nearly empty showings at odd times of the day and/or week out of thousands doesn't prove what you think it proves and that's the cold hard fact of the matter. Your desperation for this movie to fail isn't what's obnoxious, it's the laziness of cherry picking 25 tweets and presenting that as evidence and then getting mad when people don't buy what you're selling.
[–]rocker2014 10 points11 points12 points  (0 children)
Using 10 people on Twitter as a Guage for how the movie is going to do at the Box office... Seems legit.
Also, all of those people did go see the movie so the joke's on you.
[–]VaultVeteran 3 points4 points5 points  (0 children)
What puts me off seeing it the most is the decision by the cast, director etc going on the offensive against the criticism it has received. It never seemed like a wise marketing move.
[–]TBoarder 13 points14 points15 points  (20 children)
Anecdote does not equal data. Ghostbusters is trending towards a $46 million weekend, which isn't bad at all.
[–]_TheConsumer_ 1 point2 points3 points  (10 children)
Your source tells us that we should disregard IMDB's rating (4.1/10) and instead use Rotten Tomatoes' (74% - Fresh.)
It was well known that Rotten Tomatoes participated in the review boycott. The first reviews that were released on RT were hilariously off-base, giving the movie an 85% fresh rating.
People not paid to watch/review the movie hate it.
Lastly - do you really think the producers are "ok" with Ghostbusters coming in second behind The Secret Life of Pets?
That's ok - the movie will make its money back when it's released in Chi...oh, that's right - China isn't releasing the movie. Just another savvy business move by the producers.
The whole movie, from script to plot to release is pure garbage.
[–]heybongboy 7 points8 points9 points  (0 children)
it was a 4 on imdb before it had even come out anywhere. rotten tomatoes is more reliable than a site where thousands of people gave it 0 stars before even seeing it. however i don't think any internet rating service is 100% accurate, especially when it comes to a movie as polarizing as this. just judge the movie for yourself
[–]SandersHasIT 2 points3 points4 points  (0 children)
I got dragged to see it today.
Theater was packed. Lots of families and children, but plenty of adults too. Not sold out.
I didn't care for it--not my style of humor--but the audience loved it and I heard people whispering (even kids) to confirm tie-ins to the original movie and cameos.
[–]TBoarder 4 points5 points6 points  (5 children)
Have you seen it to judge? Because to be honest, I'm not trusting any reviews for this movie, with all the agendas being pushed around.
[–]_TheConsumer_ -1 points0 points1 point  (1 child)
I did. My friend was able to get free tickets through his job.Full disclosure: I went into it expecting to hate it. Ghostbusters is one of my favorite movies of all time.
The first 15 minutes were decent. Funny, a bit of action - I really thought the movie was going to grow on me.
From minute 16 until the credits rolled, the movie sucked hard. The script seemed like it was written by a 13 year old, the source material was ripped to shreds, the movie didn't follow its own rules that it established...it was nightmarish. The villain was a joke. The way they kill him was even more comical.
The best part of the movie was Chris Hemsworth. He's essentially a male Annie Potts. If you like the original Ghostbusters because of the secretary, then maybe you'll enjoy this iteration too.
The IMDB reviews are spot on. Professional reviewers are totally gaming us with this one.
[–]TBoarder -1 points0 points1 point  (0 children)
This is a reply that I can appreciate. Thanks!
[–]FindMeTheTruth[S] comment score below threshold-8 points-7 points-6 points  (1 child)
Have you seen it to judge?
People are still trying this old tired line?
There's enough leaks, trailers and spots to effectively create the entire film. Apparently damn near the entire film is not enough to "honestly judge the film before you see it".
[–]Rebellion23_5 2 points3 points4 points  (0 children)
Quite a few movies have done this before. Most movies that bomb do this.
[–]Jew_in_the_loo -2 points-1 points0 points  (0 children)
If someone drops trou on my lawn, and pops a squat, I'm not gonna stand around to confirm that they are actually taking a shit, its a fair assumption that it's going to happen.
[–]NanoGeek 4 points5 points6 points  (1 child)
"People who like movies I don't like are shills!"
I'm sorry if this is harsh, but you people really need to get a life. Stop obsessing over nonsense like this.
[–]_TheConsumer_ -1 points0 points1 point  (0 children)
It started at an 85% and now sits at 74% does that sound reasonable to you?
For context, Gladiator currently has a 76%.
[–]blackangelsdeathsong -2 points-1 points0 points  (1 child)
It's also not great for what is supposed to be a blockbuster.
[–]TBoarder 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
I'm not replying here to say how amazing this movie is or how it's going to be a blockbuster. I'm just refuting a jerk who is trying to use cherry picked tweets and bad information to claim that it's bombing. Hell, I haven't seen it yet myself... My main interest in it is based on what I've seen of Kate McKinnon's character. She looks ridiculously fun and amazing. If I get a decent movie on top of that? I'll be happy... I have no other agenda with this at all.
[–]FindMeTheTruth[S] comment score below threshold-20 points-19 points-18 points  (5 children)
Anecdote
Objective photographs are "anecdotes"?
Ghostbusters is trending towards
And in response to photographs you use the hilariously inaccurate statistic that tries to conflate a spike as a "trend" when there is no evidence it will continue to rise, let alone consistently?
Edit: Amazing. TBoarder was downvoted to -7 and suddnely in the last 5 minutes his posts have done a complete turn around despite calling photographs "anecdotes". Same for this entire thread. Sony's working hard.
[–]AnIncompleteCyborg 5 points6 points7 points  (1 child)
What makes them anecdotal is the fact that there are thousands of theaters in the US and these picture only show several of them. That isn't proof it has bombed.
[–]BabaOrly 2 points3 points4 points  (0 children)
It's not even clear whether all of these people are there before the movie or after it or they're early and no one has showed up yet. And they're mostly at odd times of the day.
[–]jdscarface 5 points6 points7 points  (0 children)
OP got extra salt on his popcorn today.
[–]TBoarder 8 points9 points10 points  (0 children)
They are anecdotes. Their theaters are not representative of theaters across the country and could very well be cherry-picked for this post.
And whatever... It's not like BoxOfficeMojo doesn't have a reputation built on forecasting things like this with relative accuracy. Is the Hollywood Reporter any better a source for you? Sheesh.
[–]BearAKA17 3 points4 points5 points  (0 children)
So you havent seen the movie and you dont know what an anecdote is? This is too good.
[–]avatarkorrapark 5 points6 points7 points  (0 children)
The real question is, what kind of person took the time to sift through the "Ghostbusters" search query to find all these tweets and put them into a scrap book?
[–]NanoGeek 5 points6 points7 points  (2 children)
Why are some people here so obsessed with wanting this movie to fail? Are your childhoods really that fragile that a simple remake is enough to throw you into a tizzy?
[–]Battleloser 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
He-man and She-ra are being stupid.
[–]sprucetrap87 comment score below threshold-9 points-8 points-7 points  (0 children)
It's more patriarchy that's been threatened than their childhoods.
[–]heybongboy 3 points4 points5 points  (2 children)
my theater was packed when i saw it on thursday night. this is a useless post of cherry picked tweets made by someone who has way too much time on their hands. just wait for the final box office report to see how well it really did, this means literally nothing
[–]FindMeTheTruth[S] -4 points-3 points-2 points  (1 child)
my theater was packed when i saw it on thursday night
And again, which theater is this?
We can check what the current seating availability is right now online.
Or will the shills just keep brigading?
[–]heybongboy 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
i'm not saying my theater being packed proves it's gonna be a hit. i'm just saying every theater's audience size is going to vary due to a million factors. you searching twitter for "ghostbusters empty" like you obviously did, and editing all the tweets together, doesn't prove shit. based on early estimates from this weekend it'll probably underperform so if you would've posted actual news about that it would've been fine. all i'm saying is that this a factless post that you made bc you have it out for this movie for some reason
[–]Kod_Rick 2 points3 points4 points  (0 children)
For science I think we should all go and buy a ticket to the movie and see for ourselves how empty the theaters actually are. Everybody meet at OPs mom's house in 30 minutes.
[–]Rineheart61 2 points3 points4 points  (8 children)
Guy who works at a movie theatre here, I don't know what the deal was with those places, but where I work every showing of ghostbusters was nearly packed today and yesterday. I guess San Antonians love shitty movies
[–]drbeavi5 3 points4 points5 points  (1 child)
Cherry picking tweets can make it seem like no one is watching a movie. I'd wait for the real numbers to come out before judging whether it is a success commercially or not. That said, I'm not going to watch this movie, I think the director (and atleast two of the four actresses) are talentless.
-Edited for clarification
[–]Rineheart61 1 point2 points3 points  (0 children)
From what I've seen by the little snippets of going into the auditorium it seems like just another mindless comedy that people enjoy, which isn't exactly a bad thing if you're into that. Also it pays homage in some ways to the old ones
[–]thesneak155 4 points5 points6 points  (3 children)
Because that's tomorrow? I for one don't make super future plans for movies. I look at the time and see there is a movie in 45 minutes and go.
[–]FindMeTheTruth[S] comment score below threshold-7 points-6 points-5 points  (2 children)
Nearly packed you claimed, for an opening weekend, yet not a single seat reserved in one of the largest cinemas in the area you just claimed.
[–]shmoove_cwiminal 3 points4 points5 points  (0 children)
What percentage of moviegoers buy tix in advance? 1%?
[–]thesneak155 2 points3 points4 points  (0 children)
I didn't claim a damn thing.

Threads like this, and there have been a lot of them lately, have been an amazing source of pleasure. The rage, denial, and unnecessary amount of time spent on shit like this just makes me laugh.
I still don't understand how a movie could offend someone so much as to waste your time doing this. But... It's funny, so please... Continue.
[–]riodosm 1 point2 points3 points  (0 children)
You do understand that your comment is contradictory, right?
[–]d4hm3r 1 point2 points3 points  (6 children)
Most reviewers on YouTube said this movie sucks.
[–]Oak987 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
So the reviews confirm what many people already suspected after seeing the trailers for this movie.
[–]FletchDoesNotLive -1 points0 points1 point  (1 child)
If Youtube says so, it must be true.
[–]taylorswiftfan123 1 point2 points3 points  (0 children)
I know 75% of professional film critics gave it a positive review but this guy who's channel is dedicated to reviewing different kinds of Cheetos made a rage video in his car saying it sucks, so it must be absolutely horrible.
[–]Felix_Cortez -4 points-3 points-2 points  (0 children)
YouTubers have to hate things, because they have to compensate for a lack of personality.
[–]beregond23 -3 points-2 points-1 points  (1 child)
Really? The ones I watched said that it was better than all the hate it's gotten, but doesn't live up to the original.
[–]kurisu7885 1 point2 points3 points  (0 children)
That's mostly what I hear. Ok at best, forgettable at worst.
[–]klabboy 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
I wasn't planning on seeing it but it makes me sad that it's apparently doing so poorly.
[–]a_man_without_fear 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
Well the box office numbers won't lie, so we'll know by Monday.

[–]ReallyGoodUsername 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
I mean, it's easy to cherry pick to make the movie look one way or another so I don't know what you're getting at.
[–]n30ndark 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
The denial in this thread is hilarious.
Ghostbusters in empty theaters? NO IT CANT BE!! /cry
lol, the movie is shit and looked like shit big surprise here
[–]riodosm 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
Talking points SWJs are trying to use to mask the overwhelming rejection of this movie:
-any man who complains is apparently "fragile" or "childish"; that must be it, since women, of course, never complain or whine;
-now that it's a flop, they try to use either the "see for yourself and decide" or the "who cares" lines;
-even though they often say they "don't care", they still comment anyway;
-instead of defending the movie, they attempt to criticize its detractors.
[–]doabadbadthing 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
Meh it will probably make its money back but I don't see huge profits it has the opening day earnings of a movie with a much lower budget. From the reviews it just wouldn't be for me. I will catch it when I am bored after it makes its way on to netflix or something.
[–]Getmethepresident11 1 point2 points3 points  (4 children)
Same thing that happened with Mighty No. 9, it's downright idiotic to personally attack your consumer base
[–]kurisu7885 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
"Cry like an anime fan on prom night" definitely is the worst possible line you could use to promote a Japanese game.

So, what is the purpose of this thread?
[–]TBoarder 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
Somebody is absolutely desperate for this movie to fail and has absolute no idea how to collect concrete date to back up his claims. He somehow thinks that checking online seating at random theaters is a good way to judge how well a movie is doing.
[–]thekeffa 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
I think a comment I heard in work on Friday summarised it for me.

"It's films like Ghostbusters that got Bittorrent invented..."

Thank the lord
[–]julesasner-dt -1 points0 points1 point  (0 children)
FF4 was generally bland and terrible for all. So reddit wants to be right again but ghostbusters will click with some people so they will fail.
[–]simplefilmreviews -1 points0 points1 point  (0 children)
