How are we today boys and girls?
Me and my girlfriend broke up yesterday after a long time of trying to figure things out, and the first thing i see when i wake up is the news from France. I always get very emotional when terrorism is happening and with the whole relationship stuff on top it's not easy.
I'm glad this free talk thing exists. I wish everyone here a lovely weekend with good friends, food and drinks.
It makes me so sad to wake up and see more people have been killed by a maniac but even sadder to feel no surprise.
The only thing I hope though is that the people calling for borders to close are doing so out of a need to react rather than any actually held belief that it would do anything. France's problems are not to do with their border but a much bigger internal issue of division instead of integration and the disenchantment and disconnection that this can cause.
Just look at the nationalities of the last 3 attacks (French-Tunisian, French + Belgian, French) and tell me how closing the borders would solve that?
Let's assume that you're right about borders (You aren't). Why is it always a certain group of people who failed to integrate and what do you think should be done about them?

Thanks legojs! Unfortunatly, yes - time is the only cure. I will feel better and probably think back on this as life experience.

Have a good weekend mate. Some relationships just don't work out no matter how much time and effort both parties put into it. At least now you can look on ahead and try and move on with life. Hope you're doing alright.
Thanks Ballsy! Appreciated.

Anxiously waiting for Fantasy PL to launch so that I can torture myself to make endless number of teams and then end up with a shitty one come GW 1
I've got a tactic though this year. Since players invariably start scoring as soon as I take them out of my team, I'm going to put Martial, Zlatan and Mkhitaryan in my team and keep taking them out again throughout the season

I walk around but how do you find pokemon? And what is there to do apart from catch pokemon?
Walk around and find Pokemon or sometimes they will appear near you. There will be blue landmarks on your map, these are stops, you like check in there and get given resources, pokeballs, potions or maybe an egg.
Once you hit level 5 this unlocks the gyms, and you pick a side. At gyms you either battle an opposing team or add your own Pokemon to help defend it for your team.
Level up, evolve Pokemon, catch stronger ones.

I mean it wasn't even funny anyway. Sometimes it's the case were a joke is begging to be made but you know it's inappropriate. This was just desperately trying to shoehorn a joke into an inappropriate subject.
Agreed. I'm a big believer in the idea of if the joke is funny or it makes a lot of people laugh then it may be inappropriate but at least people laughed and comedy shouldn't be censored.
I assume the OC was trying to joke but it just wasn't funny. Not even in the "oh shit you can't say that!" sort of unfunny - just not even funny on a base level.
I think its not the violence that has gone up, but our connectivity and exposure to them. On one hand, I feel we are becoming more insensitive, and might be reaching a point, where this cyclic, vicious revenge has no gains for either parties. And maybe that would push it to stop.
On the other hand, this connectivity might be angering more people, to take sides, getting dragged into a war that they have no call for, and no end.
My two cents, apologies, because it has no place here.
I really just don't understand how people can commit these acts in the name of religion or in the name of anything ffs. It will not solve anything, just create more suffering for both sides
They're not even committing it in the act of religion really. Isis for one thing, did some heinous acts during the holy month of Ramadhan and also in a holy city of Madinah. If they claim to represent Islam, then they're the most misguided and deluded bunch honestly because those very acts disprove anything related to religion in what they do for one thing.
Same goes with any other religious groups doing things in the "name of religion" because it's a facade they're trying to use to build a siege mindset to lure the gullible to join their rubbish cause.
Ok enough politics for the day.
IS is using their religion in a twisted way to create an Empire. And we have seen from past " Empires " like the one from Nazis, the Japs, the British , that one day they all fall miserably.
The biggest issue is that they prey upon the scared, use a siege mindset to recruit and then further their goals. But their fundamental issue of attacking Muslims in itself is their biggest flaw that voids all their claims of doing it for religious sakes because a Muslim, if he kills another Muslim without reason (to defend himself, in a war etc) is the same as one who's killed all of mankind, in terms of the severity of their sins etc.
The unfortunate part is that they use propaganda to sway the scared folks to join them while formulating their own agenda and moving the goalposts to appear legitimate and these guys, who lack homes, have their families killed etc, do buy into their story.
But that's what such empires do as you said in a way anyway in that they use a twisted way (literally twisting the laws/rules/interpretations and such) to prey on the gullible/weak/desperate to join their cause.
Blame Americans and Britain for invading other peoples countries.
The middle east have seen their people being slaughtered for a long time. No one ever seems to blame the western governments for invading and bombing other countries. Why did America invade Iraq? Libya? Mind you own business.
I mean you're not wrong in that USA + UK (amongst others) have played a part in the growth of this kind of fanaticism. I imagine it is a lot easier to recruit people who have never met an American and who have just lost their loved ones to an American bomb.
However, I dislike your use of the word "blame".
I'm using the word blame because that's where it all started.
It even happened 100 years ago. The west should just butt out.

First week of gym after a good 4-5 years of minimal physical activity. My arms and legs are so sore!
Also going to watch Giggs and Scholes at the futsal game tomorrow. VERY VERY EXCITED!!!
The first few sessions are always the hardest. Whenever I take a long enough hiatus from exercise, the next day and more always mean limping/struggling to straighten my arms, hard to bend to pick things up etc whether it be a running workout, gym session or playing any form of sports.
The key is to do it progressively and consistently while also stretching/resting well to ensure good recovery and your body getting used to the routine of exercise of whatever form.
I'm annoyed that there's no cheap and local gym where I live, because I have to wait until September for university to start up again so I can go to the gym properly. Gonna be so sore, I can tell.
You can't go to school and use it? Or are you not near the university now? I could use my school's gym last time whether it was during the semester or not.
I'm lucky enough to have cheap public gyms here though but it's limited in some ways. In the meantime, you could definitely do some other form of exercises and such like free body exercises/push ups/dips/circuit training etc to keep the base level around the same. I did some of those during vacations and they helped to maintain base fitness/strength with minimal losses.
Best part was no soreness upon returning to the more intense routine! I'm dreading going back to sprints/track training soon (not competing anymore but I just love the way it kept me aerobically and anaerobically fit). Already suffering from core exercises! Good luck!
I live like 3 hours away from my university so it's out of the question really. On the brightside, i'm visiting my girlfriend next week and she has a makeshift gym in her garage so it'll be nice getting back on some of the basics.
To be honest i'm more gutted that I've abandoned jogging. I started last summer to help me through some bad times and did it every now and again in uni, but this summer now that I've got a job I just like relaxing when I can, but I think when i'm back from holiday next week i'm gonna power through with weekly jogs to prepare myself for basketball and gym in university. Gotta make use of those £70 jogging trainers after all!
Cheers mate!

We've blown our load far too early on Mourinho.
I'm excited as anyone, and have great confidence that we'll do well this season.
However, some of the comments and reactions I've read in the past few weeks are embarrassing. Lots of folk seem to forget there's still a big challenge in front of us - it won't be a walk in the park. Every club in the league has money now. Every club is capable of doing damage to us - we saw that last season.
On top of that, City have Pep; Chelsea have Conte; Liverpool are improving under Klopp; Arsenal always finish in the Top 4; West Ham don't look to be disappearing. Etc. Etc.
Some people act as if we've already improved so much since Van Gaal and that we've the league won. We haven't even kicked a ball yet.
Anyway, on a non-football note, fuck ISIS.
I mean, it happens every year with every big team in England: the league is a walk in the park until you get to kick the ball against a Pulis side and get fucked, we'll have to wait and see honestly

I kind of find MUTV a scam tbh, most of the stuff shown is repeats or top 10 15 minute clips every day. Only thing that it is ever good for is match days, big announcements and pre-season games..and fuck I hate the commentary of the games

Definitely home and I'm deciding between Ibra and Martial
Depends on the kit really, if it looks good it looks good. Preferably a home kit though.
This season I think they all look shit. I dont get the hexagons at all, they look out of place and makes the design look cheap, especially on the third kit. If I had to choose, I would go with the away kit.
But I'd rather buy the 13/14 kit, eventhough it represents a horrendous season.
i always get the home kit, but this time I might not buy one at all, that hexagonal lining straight through the middle is really putting me off. so maybe I'll get the away blue one this time.
Home kits for sure. Tough call this year between Blind or Lingard. I guess I'll wait and see if they stay before making a purchase.

Longitude and the start of our pre-season should hopefully cheer me up a bit
I just finished Life is Strange this week, and oh my god it was soo good!! I always loved the story based games but this one just blew my mind! the ending could've been better but overall, this is definitely one of the best games I've ever played.

I would cut the cord and go down the route of not so legal streaming - https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/4stvu7/question_are_there_any_kodi_addons_out_there_that/

This is a paid service - I been using it since the start of last season I watched every united game (even 3pm kick offs) In english and HD

That would be carpet bombing european citizens then, as most terrorists are home grown.
I know this is football place, but seriously until we start challenging the educational societal problems and cut off the supply of young Europeans (normally second generation from immigrant families) from being radicalized in any form we will never counter the problem.
This isn't about banning faith, but challenging its conservative values against modern progressive liberal ones. I think the first and clear step would be the restricting faith schooling to be out of the main curriculum, faith schooling should seen as a after school or weekend thing. Instead we should have a civics/citizen lessons that cover the understanding of modern democratic systems but also teaches about European enlightenment ideas of the state, democracy and ideals of liberalism/liberty, especially founded in the yearly years of the French revolution.
Perhaps by doing this we could enable young (mostly men) who are targeted by radicals to have the tools to question the indoctrination of faith.
I think this would be a better approach to combating all forms of extremism not just religious, its much more successful and stops the destruction of our own rights through a "surveillance state" solution.

As I said earlier:
They're hiding behind the name of Islam when they honestly couldn't be further away from the religion if they tried. They aren't Muslims in any way with those acts they've committed and their strategy is always to hit out at Muslim countries, try and recruit more, then attack the west in order to garner the us versus them mindset. Where they screwed up is in attacking during Ramadhan and in Muslim countries and targets too. That itself exposed their biggest flaw and shows they aren't representing a religion in any way more than they are just fucking idiotic psychopaths who are the scum of the earth in the worst way possible.
It's just a bunch of fucking low life scumbags that hide behind the pseudonym of religion to build a siege mindset but really, they're just fucking criminals.
Mate, you can make it out that they're not doing it in the name of religion but they are. They shout Allah Akhbar. They want Shariah law. They think they're getting virgins in the afterlife. All of that is because they are muslim.
It's a form of Islam.
You say it "couldn't be further away from the religion if they tried". Really?
Some scholars state that Islamic law prohibits the killing of civilian non-combatants; in contrast, others interpret Islamic law differently, concluding that all means are legitimate to reach their aims, including targeting Muslim non-combatants and the mass killing of non-Muslim civilians, in order to universalize Islam.
you don't actually think that extremophiles practice an accurate form of Islam.... right?
What is an "accurate form of Islam"? That's their interpretation.
Just like you can have muslims who drink alcohol.
Their actions are in the name of Muhammad.
How about muslim majority countries where Shariah law is practiced? They're not real muslims? Where they push gay people off buildings? And behead people for having an affair.
Wasn't there a big thing on reddit where everyone hated and mocked Scientology? Why was that?
an accurate form of Islam is the practice derived from the scripture of the religion itself (i.e. the Q'ran)
having studied theology and the book itself there are no mentions of extreme violence that the practice advocates. unless you can magically find me something
the geopolitics of the areas these terrorists come from have more of a bearing than religion; anyone can twist something to meet their interpretations. some random person can go out screaming about the rights of Christianity and shooting up mosques, yet you wouldn't say that's an accurate form of Christianity just because that single extreme individual said they were doing something in the name of God.
do some more research on the matter before saying such inane things. you're making no sense.

Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"
Please, defend this.
You're taking that quote completely out of context.
That entire verse is from a passage regarding the Battle of Badr in which pagans were terrorizing the muslims of Madinah. The muslims were severely outnumbered, and Allah said he would kill the non-believers himself (never advocating violence by any Muslim despite being purged by an expansive and terrorizing group of people).
Even when the muslims were constantly being persecuted they were encouraged to make peace, according to the Q'ran.
edit: found this should explain in detail bc I'm too lazy to copy/paste the remaining parts of the verse
https://discover-the-truth.com/2014/09/29/quran-812-i-will-cast-terror-into-the-hearts-of-those-who-disbelieve-therefore-strike-off-their-heads/
He is. He picked and choose from a site designed to showcase the violence while COMPLETELY ignoring any semblance of context, and even changing the messages a little to make it fit the narrative he has as well.
And he's making things up along the way based off his own interpretations instead and mindset, that's already prejudiced to form a narrative and won't change it.
Right.....so you can't see how anyone would be fine with killing non believers....when that's what it literally says was done by Allah. If the mighty Allah, who created the world and is the all powerful is fine with killing non believers then it's ok..if that's interpreted as so by some muslims, which it is.
Good on you for being an ignorant git
Again, ignoring context, because it fits your narrative.... Good one.
He did so, simply because those non believers waged war, terror and killed off the believers who tried to spread the message of Islam and denounced them. This was a retaliation to slaughtering them and so the commandment was to defend themselves and fight agains them, so long as they bore arms and still fought, but if they surrendered, then they were to be let go, helped and tended to even with no ill acts towards them.
It's basically - country A kills off country B's inhabitants etc. B was instructed to fight back and defend themselves but stop should A surrender and not go beyond the means to finish them off etc.
Peace was also offered, numerous times, to the enemy, should they reconcile/stop their attacks on the Muslims that they started and this was frequently extended graciously.
But of course, none of those are highlighted, and you're not keen on knowing it to once again, concoct your own message and narratives.
No it isn't. It's according to you. There's no "pick your own interpretation and do it" in Islam really.
You can't. They aren't practicing Muslims if they do and the fact you state so highlights that you don't know anything about it.
Wrong. Completely false and once again, what you concocted.
Who says they aren't? Shariah law is a form of law governing certain things. People aren't beheaded for having an affair, as that's not part of Shariah law. You're making everything up it seems.
What's the relevance to that?
http://www.aquila-style.com/focus-points/alcohol-and-the-modern-day-muslim/11175/
https://lordsofthedrinks.com/2013/08/06/muslims-can-drink-just-like-mohamed/
So if you drink you're not a muslim?
Just like.....you're not a catholic if you have sex before marriage? Imagine telling people who go to church that they are not catholic because they have sex before marriage.
Sorry, I meant stoning, not beheading....which is even worse again. You don't even get a quick death.
You seem to think that if a muslim does something a perfect muslim wouldn't do then it's not because of Islam. Wrong.
Once again, each subsequent post of your shows that you don't know a single thing, and are making things up. It's completely false and shows how ignorant your are on even the simplest thing to do with Islam or even Christianity actually too.
Literally everything you posted on the matter is inaccurate and made up, but you not knowing anything at all, just pick and choose from the most bogus sites around, to fit your narrative once again. And you pick from places that completely fabricate things while taking them to be the truth and hence, serves as your misinformation.
There's repentance and forgiveness, but of course, you once again, have zero clue on any of the matters.
Anyway, I'm really done replying to you on the matter. You can go ahead and bring up bogus sites and quotes again, but they only highlight the fact that you're picking and choosing from things that fit your narrative and aren't true at all.
Shariah law? Islamic law? Pushing gays off buildings, stoning people?
That's all fine?
shouting it and wanting shariah law means they're Muslims and practicing it for their religion?
Then I can go around and say Christ is good, our Los and saviour and slap anyone and say it's in the name of Christianity then by that logic...
The prophet himself prohibited any harm to civilians/non combatants and the weak, elderly, children and women whenever there was a war and it's been stated in many, proper Hadith texts so, that's definitely not true what those who say you can kill anyone to achieve your goals.
I'm sorry but, that's just completely inaccurate.
Ehmm...where in the bible does it say that?
Try and defend this, really.
http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/quran/violence.aspx
You're taking it off context, to fit your narrative of course. This was during the ancient times where there was war against the prophet, his people and the like, and that translation is also inaccurate in some ways, while also completely ignoring (of course it does, because if it doesn't it won't fit your narrative and would invalidate your sentiments) the context, reasoning, further delving into the timeline, situations that were present then and such. For anyone else who's keen, it was a part of the story as to how the disbelievers then opposed and attacked the prophets, slaying their people and such so this was then a commandment to retaliate and uphold their own lives in a war that was waged against them first...
But you've made up your mind it seems so it's pointless trying to show you things which you'll clearly close your eyes to and pick apart translations which would select your own agenda. You clearly picked from a site that is meant to depict Islam as violent and ignore any form of contextual relevance or such...
Oh and as far as the bible goes:
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the [holy man] who represents God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged.
I decided to order a man to lead the prayer and then take a flame to burn all those, who had not left their houses for the prayer, burning them alive inside their homes.
But of course, you'll ignore it and now claim other things. I'm not keen on furthering any discussions about this, really. You've made your mind up and are looking at it through one way, without the keenness of other points though. I'm not going to reply further so, have a good day instead.
Yeah and they're still using that ancient book for their beliefs today.
Thankfully not many christians are interpreting that as literal and go out killing people in the name of God.
But if Christians did go out and start killing people because of their interpretation of the bible then it's the same as islam.
But yeah....as I said, not many people are getting murdered in the name of Christianity are they? But if they were, I'd be treating it the same as Islam. FWIW IMO all religions are stupid but hey, do what you want as long as you don't harm anybody.
Have you any response to the Shariah law point? Pushing gay people off buildings? Stoning people who have affairs?
Once again, you're completely being ignorant as evidenced by all your posts on the matter and making up things to fit your own narrative.
You've completely misconstrued every single thing, literally, picked the points you chose, and used the narrative you decided, to post about it while ignoring any form of explanations regarding the manners or such, all the time.
You can slate religions all you want, but maybe you could learn and delve deeper first before painting a stereotype with your own views while ignoring any semblance of context, explanations and such on the issues but then coming up with your own narrative to skirt around those just to make your argument.
At least that way, you'll actually know more on the matter should you do that, while sounding less like someone who makes completely false points as a basis of their argument.
Every post of yours just has the word "narrative".
