Gubernatorial Candidate Vindicated
On May 19th, a party to celebrate the vindication of journalist Takashi Uesugi was held in Kenseikinenkan, Tokyo.
Uesugi pointed out the high likelihood of a meltdown at the nuclear reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant soon after the tsunami hit Japan in March of 2011.
Uesugi was immediately labeled a liar and an alarmist due to this claim and as a result was dropped from all media commentary positions, speaking engagements and more overnight,
However in February, TEPCO - the Tokyo Electric Power Company who ran the reactor - held a press conference admitting that the meltdown was predictable at the point of three days after the accident took place and apologized.
After TEPCO took responsibility, Uesugi’s supporters decided to throw the party in his honor.
Notable guests at the party included MPs Ichiro Ozawa, Shizuka Kamei, journalist Soichiro Tahara, commentator Shigeaki Koga, former governor of Tokyo, Naoki Inose, actress/singer Mie Nakao, and comedian Atsushi Tamura.
The youngest candidate for Governor of Asia's largest city, Tokyo has just announced his candidacy.
48 year old Takashi Uesugi, known informally as the "George Stephanpolis" of Japan, formerly with national broadcaster NHK, New York Times and the Journalist who first broke the story of the meltdown of the Fukushima Nuclear Reactor has been shut out of the candidate debates and is hoping to reach the the next generation beginning with 18 year olds who have just been given permission to vote for the first time .
In addition, Uesugi is reaching out to the international community to get his candidacy viral to break through the media blackout that is preventing him from being included in the Candidate Debates,
