I've had an idea to do a Man United only fantasy football for the 2016/17 season. Inspired by other competitions on this sub such as /u/Pedantic_Pat's 'Going For Gold' and /u/MrBenLad's 'Guess The Line-Up' I hope it will be another fun thing to do over the course of the season.

The aim is to post a selections thread 24 hours before each game in which everyone chooses their three players. I will keep track of everyone's selections and scores using Google Docs allowing people to view it to check its all been done correctly. As a student spending an extortionate amount on rent i can't promise big prizes but will give at very least Reddit Gold to the overall winner unless anyone else offers better prizes.

 

How it works

The basic premise will be that you pick one defender, one midfielder and one striker from our squad that you think will play in the next game and get points according to how well they perform in the game using stats from WhoScored. Your player selections must also play in the position that you allocate them or else you score no points for them, for example if you picked Blind as your defender and he plays in midfield even if he has a great game you won't score any points. This is the way the positions will be split up with yellow defence, orange midfield and red striker. Goalie is just pointless as it will just be De Gea almost every week.

I've used the FA Cup Final win to show how it will work:

So let's say you had picked Blind as your defender, Fellaini as your midfielder and Martial as your striker you would get a total of 18 points for the game. Alternatively you may have picked Darmian as your defender, Herrera as your midfielder and Rooney as your striker (as he played in midfield and not as a striker you score 0) getting you only 1 point.

 

What next?

I plan on using our preseason games as run throughs to test if it all works and then to tinker with so it is ready for the start of the season. No doubt there will be many times over the season where I am unable to make the post so if there are a few people who would be willing to help then please let me know. Any and all advice and criticism on the game will also be appreciated especially on the scoring system if you think other stats should have an effect or certain factors need to be more strongly/weakly weighted.
