I don't think we'd pay 30m for him unless Jose was fairly sure he'd be able to make an instant impact

£30m is about the going rate for any fairly established, young player from the main European leagues, not forgetting the lack of quality around generally in that position & the uplift prem clubs have to pay for players, the fee in my opinion means very little.

It isn't the same £30m that 14+ years ago would've bought you Rio Ferdinand...

It's because blind isn't really a cb, Jones is always injured, rojo hasn't really shown that he deserves to start. Everyone is hoping that Bailey is going to be a starter... Because we really need him to be.

Because were not going to fork out 30m for him to be a rotational player, of course he is going to need to settle in but you can't do that without playing regularly.

Bailly clearly is an excellent signing but for those that think he is going to get things rolling straight with him partnering Smalling down the centre perfectly right from the start, might need to rethink again.

Still a very raw talent with one full season of La Liga experience under Villarreal, and don't let the price tag get into our heads. Treat Bailly as a signing a la Martial. Signed for the future, but if he works out in his first season, good for us. If not, he will eventually mature into an excellent defender if properly developed.

That being said, Mourinho clearly will give him a chance to start. But if things don't go as well as the gaffer thinks, then he might drop off to a Zouma-like role at Chelsea playing backup to Smalling & his defensive partner then. Could be Jones for all you know (fingers crossed).

Literally this post Is EXACTLY, how I view and deem the signing.

Excellent bit of business for a potential star in the position, whom can develop and grow under a top coach, as you stated much the same as Zouma has done at Chelsea over the last 2 and bit years.

Mourinho also said he has a lot to learn, he didn't really talk about him as a player who's going straight into the line up.

i couldn't remember the quote exactly but yeah, I know it was something along these lines

It's been so long since Rio and Vidic left that some of us have forgotten we we're meant to find replacements. It's been over 3 years and Mourinho sorts it out within a week of being appointed. Potentially.

Bailly is arguably the most proven alongside Smalling. Blind isn't a defender. Period. Jones is an injuring nightmare, Rojo going to CB would be a disaster, and TFM isn't ready for CB IMO. He has potential to be amazing but not CB for me. I could be wrong though.

My point is that Bailly seems to be the only full blooded CB we have who isn't a LB/midfield converted or an academy graduate.

Amazing right.

I get your points above, for me Rojo is a fucking calamity I'd send him packing straight away.

With that being said though, does it not point to the fact we may still need more in the CB position then an established senior player, a injury prone nightmare, a utility man and a newbie!?

Jones hasn't showed us a lot of quality at CB and Rojo, please, the man is way too attacking for a CB and always gets caught out. And for Blind, seems like the Bailly signing was so he doesn't start. And TFM only played 1 game there for the first team and you think he's ahead of a 30 Million signing?

[–]goodguy1994it's Rooneyyy, it's inevitable. some things are meant to be 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

He's better than TFM and rojo. Jones is injured all the time and blind is good but bailly' bigger and faster.

[–]Polar_Bear_CuddlesEvra 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Jones is living in a better place, Rojo maybe, and Blind with Jose having a laugh mate? Do you really think Jose will play TFM over the new 30m pure CB?

[–]imsowitty21 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Honestly, you're making sense. People here are being blinded by hopefulness.

[–]LioAlanMessiBlind 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

The same thing happened with Memphis last summer, he was on everybody's predicted line up. I understand the hype of the player we thought we were getting, but that also meant he has been under a lot pressure. I hope this doesn't happen again with Bailly and he gets enough time to develop.

[–]the_trainmanRobson -3ポイント-2ポイント  (3子コメント)

*Chris, but I see your point. I think he'll take time to bed into the league and I highly doubt he'll be a first team starter by early 2017.

I think everyone is quite excited about a new CB signing and since we paid so much for him, it just adds to the excitement.

[–]matt_66[S] -1ポイント0ポイント  (2子コメント)

I get that, I see the excitement it just seems a bit naive to me, perhaps I'm being too much of a realist and not enjoying the moment and the romance of it all. The guy is 22, it would suprise me if he played a key starting role as you mention, He is surely a prospect to develop and mould into something special.

Also, me calling Chris 'Mike', was on purpose

[–]the_trainmanRobson 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

I know, but I thought he doesn't quite like being called Mike. He actually said that in an interview.

I think being a realist is ok, I am too. I am personally more patient than most folks out here and wouldn't worry too much if Bailly starts only a handful of games this year. I prefer being this way because if the player ends up performing better than expected, the excitement is wayyy more - just like Martial and Rashford :)

[–]matt_66[S] -3ポイント-2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yeah, don't get me wrong If the guy gets off to a flier akin to Tony M I will humbly eat my words and admit I was wrong to question him!
