I believe 1. Rooney 2. Rashford 3. Martial 4. Zlatan 5. Mkhitaryan 6. Carrick 7. De Gea 8. Romero 9. Smalling 10. Luke Shaw 11. Fosu-Mensah 12. Bailly are guaranteed to make the squad. Who takes remaining 12?

There's a bunch of articles floating around today claiming that he told the players he plans on having a squad size of only 24. I think the outlet was the Daily Mail though so take it with a bucket of salt.

What makes you think TFM is a guarentee? How often has Jose made academy products who don't even have 10 appearances parts of his core squad? Of the academy products Lingard and Adnan are the only ones with enough apperances for Jose to likely trust, Rashford is borderline the rest

you seriously think Mourinho looks at the number of starts to judge a player? not to mention Adnan is maybe the last player Mou is going to trust,he is everything a Mourinho player isn't.

In a way he does. He is very much about needing trust in the players he selects to not make silly rookie mistakes. So he doesn't generally put trust in players who lack enough first team starts to have had those rookie mistakes developed out of them.

And yes Adnans supposed attitude is a problem but he also has enough first team apperances that he should be expeianced enough not to be manking the basic rookie errors

Honestly I don't see both Rojo and Jones staying. I don't think any of us know Mourinho's thoughts on Fellaini.

I expect Rojo to be sold as I don't see Jose liking a defender who when the ball is off the ground he loses any ability to judge the flight of the ball.

However I was basing it off the current squad as we can't be sure who else he will bring in and hence who might go out.

On Fellaini I can see him keeping him as a backup to Zlatan. Jose likes a target man who can hold the ball up and bring others into the game. Outside Zlatan you wouldn't say any of our strikers have that in their game right now and as such playing them could lead to the issues Chelsea had in both stints when Drogba or Costa was injured where you saw situations where players like Remy who are decent players fail to really shine because they can't do that job. Fellani as a target man and relying on him bringing the likes of Martial into the game seems a better fit with Jose style

No idea why you're downvoted, this seems by far the most realistic.

It might not have Fosu-Mensah or Borthwick-Jackson, but that's only because those guys are still young enough to play with the U-21's. Same goes for Rashford, but considering he's likely to be back up to Zlatan, he'll be in the 24.

I still suspect Juan will be sold, and Fellaini will be in his place.

This is assuming we sell no one and buy no one else....it won't be set til August I'd imagine. Maybe not even til the window closes.

It doesn't make a lot of sense...that's 6 injuries away from not being able to fill up the bench. He might take 24 over 21 players, so that wouldn't count Martial, Rashford, TFM, etc.

He traditionally only uses about 22 players in a season. He has a couple more first teamers but everyone else gets religated to train with the reserves

Goalkeepers: De Gea, Romero, Johnstone.

Defenders: Jones, Valencia, Darmian, Shaw, Smalling, Fosu-Mensah, Borthwick-Jackson, Bailly.

Midfield: Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Herrera, Depay, Carrick, Schneiderlin,Young, Lingard, Pereira

Forwards: Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Rashford, Martial

Above is Daily Mail's prediction of our 24 man squad, which, if true, means that Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Blind, Mata and Januzaj are gone.

Fellaini has been much maligned by this sub and ultimately i don't think he's good enough to start for a team with PL and CL ambitions. However, he's a decent squad player with a unique skill set. I'm fairly indifferent whether he stays or goes. I would be disappointed if we lost Schweinsteiger's quality and experience in midfield. Blind too is a great utility player and I think we would miss his versatility. I am personally a big fan of Mata but wouldn't be too surprised if Jose sold him, as I'm not sure he fits his style of play. I also think Januzaj should get one more season as he's still young enough to turn things around.

It remains to be seen how true these reports are.
