This has to be illegal!
My friend's grandmother received this in the mail today.
The return address says "Office of Records / California Area Assessment" and urges an immediate response. The envelope says, "Notice of Delinquency" in large red letters. However, when you open it up, you see that it is a campaign for donations to the Republican National Committee!
Her grandma has never been a registered republican, nor has she ever made political donations of any kind. She pays all of her bills on time and carefully reads all of her mail. Yet she gets this "urgent" letter in the mail, causing her to immediately panic and wonder whether her house is secure, or whether she is in serious financial trouble. This is unacceptable, and a clearly predatory tactic used to prey on the elderly. As if it even needs to be said at this point, shame on you, Republican National Committee!!!
