Horrible or not; this is now the default post for all Pokemon Go shennanigans.

Even better: /r/PokemonGoBelgium

ITT: Old people struggling with the concept of black comedy.

I mean this joke has been done to deathjust like those girls but the fact that it's offensive to a lot of people is exactly the point.

Dutch is always offensive to my ears.

Fairly certain it's "dark humour" not "black comedy"

Total stranger to Pokemon but I see value in modded play

  • walk around bxl with smartphone
  • go to pretty girls and tell them your cutymon/mignonnonom alert went off and you need their contact details
  • profit

  • girl doesn't get it
  • you try to explain
  • you are now a grown man talking about your pokeymans to a girl you just met
  • she throws up in her mouth
  • abdelkader steals your smartphone
  • no girl
  • no phone
  • no pokeymans

It's harassment if a foreigner talks to them. It's romance when I do it.

That's horrible

Yeah, i don't know which generation of belgians are visiting this subreddit but for me this evil bastard brings a lot of awfull memories and should never be associated with anything that is ment to be funny.

You're entitled to your opinion, but using humor to make light of something dark is how many people deal with things. It's pretty much an unwritten rule in comedy that either everything is OK to make fun of, or nothing is.

Personally, I was a child of roughly the same age as the victims when it was going on.

yeah I can appreciate a good dark joke. But this one is just not funny and slightly outrages me.

This is exactly my thought. Those who find this funny must be or too young to have remembered/lived true it. This is so fucked up it makes me a bit angry.

Not only Dutroux himself but all the fuck ups that happened with the courts and police.

Dammit i don't get how - especially as a Belgian - you can find this funny.

Pitchblack sense of humour with no concern for whether something could be offensive or not.

All the fuck ups and horror make it one of the easiest things to use of that type of humour.

[–]Detective_FallacyAntwerpen 2ポイント3ポイント  (6子コメント)

9/11 was more recent and people have been making jokes about it for years already. Hell, I was in primary school back then and we were making jokes about it within a week, as some sort of coping mechanism.

People have different ways to look at humour.

I agree, we all have a different sense of humour. Personally i find it difficult to make something light of the kidnapping, torture, the anal raping and left to die by starvation of girls ranging from 10 to 16 years old. Not forgetting the 20+ witness that got assassinated by the people trying to protect dutroux. I'm really sorry i might be over sensitive or simply showing respect to the poor victims & families.

You obviously don't have to feel sorry about anything. Your opinion is as valuable as anyone else´s, and so is your right to express it. Your being sensitive to the matter should however (and will) not be reason enough to prevent humor that you think is shocking from happening.

There is this saying that one can laugh at anything but not necessarily share it with anybody, which I think is very wise. Personally I like dark humor. I will certainly avoid telling a holocaust joke to a survivor('s family member), but if one overhears me saying it to one of my mates, hell, they have to live with it... I won't stop telling dark jokes because someone can overhear them and feel offensed. Reddit works the same IMO.

Twist: i'm not feeling sorry, it's sarcastic.

Not forgetting the 20+ witness that got assassinated by the people trying to protect dutroux.

Uh. What.

Yes but is does not mean you have to make the joke the default page of a Pokemon game that has nothing to do with it. That's the problem i have with it. Not the joke perse.

Dutroux has been the butt of awful jokes since forever, tho. Shit, at my school (and I'm sure all over Flanders) kids used to sing this one: "Er zit meer in je kelder dan je denkt, er zit meer in je kelder dan je denkt, Julie en Melissa, Loubna Benaïssa, er zit meer in je kelder dan je denkt."

[–]Chimiel82M/r/Belgium 2ポイント3ポイント  (2子コメント)

Hadn't heard that one. The only one I remember is what he used to order when he got fries. 2 little ones to take home.

[–]uses_irony_correctlyAntwerpen 4ポイント5ポイント  (1子コメント)

Why did Dutroux skip dinner? He had already grabbed a little something on his way home.

What does Dutroux play with on the beach?

Zand en zeefje

You are making humor out of a situation that not only Dutroux took part of. Those two girls were raped and starved to death over there. How do you think the parents would react to these jokes? Use your fucking head and have some empathy.

I didn't make that rhyme, I'm pointing out that this is hardly the first joke about it. People joke about rape, murder, racism, war and death all the time. If that offends you, then I can only tell you what I tell my Muslim friends that get upset about Mohammed cartoons, people are as free to offend as you are to feel offended about it. Use your fucking head and grow a thicker skin.

You are just proving my point though.. Those kids don't remember how it was. How scared parents were when he escaped. How mad the whole of the population was about the corruption that went on. The white march was on of the biggest we ever had.

Go talk to any teacher with a brain and a heart and they won't find it funny..

It scares me that this is the image we portray of Belgians on reddit. I'm not from Flanders but i'm Brusselaar and half of the time i can't relate to people in this sub at all.

To make the joke is one thing, to make it a default page is just wrong. It's not necessary.

How scared parents were when he escaped.

Even Geert Hoste had a routine about the time he escaped. Is that not done too ?

Go talk to any teacher with a brain and a heart and they won't find it funny..

Guess neither me nor my colleagues have any heart or brains. Thanks for the psychological evaluation.

It scares me that this is the image we portray of Belgians on reddit. I'm not from Flanders but i'm Brusselaar and half of the time i can't relate to people in this sub at all.

Half the time I can't relate with people on here either. It's funny like that, but it's like people all have their own ideas, convictions and hang-ups. Don't try to make this into a communitarian issue. I was at a bar yesterday with francophone friends and they also laughed.

I started a thread requesting help on a matter and got a lot of helpfull advices in this subreddit. But i have to agree this thread reeks of immaturity and mostly assholes.

It doesn't offend me, it's just bad jokes and I am sure you wouldn't be laughing if any of these had happened to someone close to you.
And way to compare an insult to one's religion to having your child raped.

I'm sure racist fat or whatever jokes won't make you laugh if you are the butt of the joke. I would find it highly insensitive to walk up to the parents and tell one like this, or for a public official to make one in function. Yes. I would disapprove of De Morgen publishing it. On the other hand, if it's toogpraat or BS on reddit. Fuck, let it go. Insensitive humor has its own sub for a reason, you know.

EDIT: For religious Muslims it's on the same level. You forget that they think their God is real and that their religion is sacred. Just like you get offended about this, they are very much, viscerally sometimes, offended. And just like them, you'll need to accept that your morality and sensibilities are not a meter or necessarily in need of protection.

Just because it's a bad joke, doesn't mean it isn't still a joke. All jokes will offend at least someone, and that isn't a reason not to tell them in general. Would I tell a Dutroux joke at a party I know one of the parents is attending? Obviously not. Should someone cry about it when it is posted on Reddit instead? Equally obviously not.

On top of that, the only thing worse than being offended by something stupid, is being offended by something stupid on behalf of someone else. This isn't Tumblr.

The logic "it doesn't concern me so I won't say anything" is the lamest excuse you can come up with when you see something wrong.

That's the point. Jokes aren't wrong. They're jokes.

[–]uses_irony_correctlyAntwerpen 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

Hitler and Holocaust jokes get made all the time, people dress up like hitler for comedy purposes all the time, and Hitler was, in my humble opinion, slighty worse than Dutroux. Anything can be made fun of, and that doesn't make the people that make those jokes or the people that laugh at them bad people.

Only slightly, though. Who cares about some Jews anyway, amirite? :^)
