Balague seems very sure about Pogba joining United

Balague gets a lot of hate on this sub because he's kind of a cunt. That being said, regarding Spanish transfers, especially Barcelona rumors he is actually quite good, he does know some people.

Pogba doesn't really mean anything from a Spanish point of view, other than Real Madrid might not be in for him. I take everything he says outside of Spain with a grain of salt.

He was also the first to report on the De Gea fax machine saga as it happened. Also reported earlier that day on Navas accepting the deal etc.

Certainly has his sources, but I think we're resigned to taking everything he says with a pinch of salt now.

So, Pogba.

[–]TheReplacerUnited We Stand 9

I have a feeling we all kinda bought into the hype a bit to much.

Bought into what? It might happen and it might not but either way or"hope" has no effect on the transfer. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't mean that it never had a chance.

And everyone who showed reasonable doubt about the transfer got downvoted to hell

pmsl

[–]TanqPhilWoodward!

...will sign. I will delete my 4 year old account if he doesn't.

Woody is under serious pressure to get the deal done now.

[–]SpeedyOwntDavid De Gea 4

Saved. Pitchforks will be ready.

[–]Entrepreneur_GirlJosé Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix 0

Who is next? Kante seems to be off to Chelsea if the rumours are true

Apparently Matuidi, but I don't think he is the right fit for us. Rather go on with our current midfield and pick out the crop next year

Matuidi's 29 as well so he won't be in his prime for much longer considering how much he relies on his physical attributes.

He isn't off to Chelsea. They've begun talks.

Joao Mario would be great.

I'm probably the only one here, but I hope we don't sign Pogba.

In my opinion he is massively overrated and the amount of money is scandalous. He has said he dreams of playing for Madrid. I want players who dream of playing with united.

An large amount of world class players would prefer to play for one of the Spanish giants if given the opportunity, that's just the reality. If you restrict it to exclude those people then we'd be excluding a large amount of players and our options would be a lot smaller.

The proper way to go about it is actually retaining them. PSG are able to do it as well as Bayern and I'm sure a lot of their players didn't grow up dreaming of playing for them.

Do you think he is overrated or just to expensive?

My biggest worry is that we sign him and then play him in a midfield two in a 4231 where, as he showed the other day, he's an average player.

What a load of nonsense. He has one quiet game and he's suddenly average?

No he meant in that position. Still may be wrong, but just pointing it out.

I got that he meant in that position, but I no way is he average. Not at his best maybe, but average is wayyy too hyperbolic.

He's been average the whole tournament when he gets played this deep and limited in an anchor role. He shines as a box to box where he has a lot more freedom.

You've misinterpreted what I said. He's a brilliant player, don't get me wrong but he needs freedom to perform at his best which you don't really get in a 4231. In say, a 433 or a diamond he can get forward as much as he likes which is where he's at his best but with a 4231 the additional defensive responsibility really holds him back. Spending £100m on a player to then play him in a role that doesn't really suit him would be a mistake imo which was my point in my first comment.

You misunderstand me. He's still not average in that position. He's best in a midfield 3 I agree, but average? Come in.

How many players don't look average when played out of position?

[–]BBQ_HaX0rStannis the Mannis -2

Haven't both Martial and Memphis expressed a fondness for Madrid?

After a quick google search of both circumstances, no. Some shit dribbled here and there from Metro, Express, or other rags, but nothing ever quoted, nothing to even indicate it. In Memphis' case, just spouting shite about his "nightmare" here, painting Madrid as his saviour. So, again, nope.

[–]BBQ_HaX0rStannis the Mannis 1

Thanks I thought I recall seeing stuff like that on here, but I guess I was mistaken.

I threw up reading that last link, thanks.

Going to be interesting over the next few weeks with who we're going to be linked to now that the Euros are over and journalists will be looking for something to write about.

Now that the Pogba talk may start dying down, I'm looking forward to seeing who will come up with the most ridiculous rumour. Gaitan is gone so I'm hoping that we get a new annual target.

I think I'm missing something.. di marzio said we've agreed personal terms with Paul. BBC said that we haven't even begun negotiations yet. So why is everyone freaking out?? if the headlines read like 'Juventus rejects Man Utd's 120m bid' then I'd understand, but a few comments from cunty mccuntmeister himself and everyone already lost all hope? the guy was making us doubt zlatan's transfer just a few days before it was confirmed ffs.. he threw a chair during miki's negotiations, albeit in our favour, but still a cunt move nonetheless. and it's not like he told us anything we didn't already know, he said "Juventus don't want to sell pogba, and want to extend his contract." what, like before we thought they were itching to sell him, right?

you can call me crazy/optimistic but I don't think "it's all over yet" it might be soon, but even then, I trust Jose to get us a b2b midfielder decent enough.

Anyone else see us linked with Pique today? Apparently the bookies have slashed our odds on getting him

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-transfer-pique-odds-11597922

Bookies are rarely a good barometer on the likelihood of a transfer, especially at those odds.

Looking through Skybet, we're just as likely, if not more likely to buy Higuain (8/1) and Ronaldo (7/1).

I'm just surprised tbh. Never expected us to be linked to him

That's also why I put in here

At 10/1, they are lower than I would have expected to be alright. It is worth having a look through who we're linked with on the betting sites for a good laugh, saw that we're at 4/1 to sign Robben and 5/1 to be John Terry's next club.

[–]DJkoolkidzklanMartial the LEGEND 0

Kante is all we need honestly, EPL proven CDM

I'd argue we need a box to box creative midfielder more than a defensive mid tbh

Agreed, Schneiderlin is our PL proven DM. More than enough to fill the role. Need a B2B to sit next to him.

Schneiderlin was very successful at Southampton where he was the box to box and Wanyama was the holding player.

Thank you, I don't know how many times I've read on this sub that Schneiderlin is a DM, he's not at all. He puts in a great defensive shift as a B2B but he does need someone who sits deeper than him to clear up the shit he misses.

He was playing for a team with a different style to United, and in an environment where he isn't under pressure to create from deep against a packed defence. All the best teams have players with a far better range of passing than Schneiderlin, nor does he have the physicality to make up for it.

He's a good player no doubt, and I expect him to do well under Mourinho, but he isn't good enough to be played alongside another defensive midfielder and be expected to create in our team as it stands.

[–]DJkoolkidzklanMartial the LEGEND 0

Exactly, Schneiderlin isn't a DM

That just is not true. I debunked that myth personally by looking at a heat map (courtesy of Squawka) of Wanyama and Schneiderlin when they were playing at Southampton.

Schneiderin was always the one who covered more defensive ground, what really made it clear was in a couple games when he was paired up with Alderweireld he was still the pivot in regards to Alderweireld going forward more.

I'd be genuinely interested in seeing those heat maps you mention cause what I've heard from Southampton fans, as well as what I observed watching their matches was that Schneiderlin had a lot more of a free role than Wanyama but if you want to prove me wrong, go ahead.

If he doesn't worked then we have Carrick, Blind and Schweinsteiger too and if all else fails TFM.

We're stacked at CDM, we need a half attacking CM in the style of Renato Sanches/Andre Gomes/Pogba who we've been linked with this Summer. Kante isn't that

Mata, stay or go?

Go imo, especially if we can get a decent fee from the likes of Everton or Valencia. He's not been brilliant since he joined, he's likely on very big wages and he doesn't fit Mourinho's system at all.

Best keeper and front line in the league. The defence is young and promising with plenty of cover, but I wouldn't say no to a RB.

The centre of midfield is still the issue, although I think as well as signing someone, we have an important task of deciding who to try and offload, we have about 12 players for the (probably 2) spots as it is ! A lot of it will most likely boil down to what offers we get in the end. Although none of the current lot are close to being world class.

Bit early to say or attack is the best in the league, we have to see how mihki and zlatan come off first.

Point being we don't need to sign an attacker :)

West Ham seem to be having the kind of window we sorta had under LvG, being linked to every striker under the sun (Higuain the latest)

I'd be fucking ecstatic to sign Pogba but I also think people unfairly underrate our current squad. We have an amazing front three, and a solid midfield that could flourish under the new manager.

I don't think Pogba could by himself win the league for us - we'd win it or not regardless of signing him.
