GMs are like Sherman tanks in WWII - cheap deathtraps, but while you're shooting your tenth one, ten others are getting into position to wreck your shit.

Well, they're only cheap deathtraps compared to the units Zeon started fielding at the time, like the Rick Doms and Gelgoogs. The GM is still superior to a regular Zaku II, being lighter, faster, and wielding a beam weapon. Superior thrust, weapons, and generator output. The regular Zaku is just clumsy by comparison.

You want cheap deathtraps churned out for numbers alone, there's the Ball, or as it's lovingly called, the "mobile coffin".

History I'd guess.

To my knowledge its one of the few tanks I am aware of you can penetrate the armor of with a moderate strength rifle cartridge :P

And its not like GMs or RGMs were designed to be durable, one good hit and their destroyed it seems like.

Its apt enough in my eye.

Sherman armor was good enough to deflect rifle shots, and by the late war with the 76 mm gun and HVAP ammunition it had enough fierpower to fuck up a tiger. Add in the fact that the sherman had a stabilized gun and was smaller, well in a straight up 1v1 the sherman could very well defeat a tiger.

Ehhh to a extent this is true but when the enemy has comparable numbers or an advanced unit...it's just a cheap death trap.

Or surprise on their side.

I mean recall that GM Camouflage unit fielded by Zeon in Igloo? It could wreck shit up behind enemy lines without any one being the wiser.

Numbers alone mean only that you need to work around that numerical disadvantage.

It actually predates the GM in Real Life, the joke is just that It has literally infinite Power. Plus the whole deal that Ideon is essentially where the “Kill'em all“ Nickname comes from

That is actually a slight misconception. In reality its more along the Lines of (quote TVTropes): “Ideon blew up while the Big Bad exploded so large it blew up the Galaxy“

Might I turn your attention to a GM that was out when the regular GM was out.

GM Sniper II. This was the suit that people considered a "masterpiece" during the One Year War. It was used as the base for designing such suits as the MSA-003 Nemo used by the AEUG during the Gryps Conflict.
