Arma cuts deep mate.

I prefer to ride in the helicopter with the squad, land and shoot in the direction my team is shooting.

To the top with it then and let's find out.

The worst is in Project Reality (like Arma) when your squad lead isn't communicating well with other squads and you open fire across a field onto another one of your teams squad because you can't identify who they are. You feel awful because you've exchanged fire with your own men and they have to trek back out because your squad made a mistake.

TL:DR Friendly fire can suck.

That sounds awesome actually.

It's quite the experience and gives you perspective on how mistakes can be made on the battlefield.

I think this premise is incorrect. A weapon is not a game mechanic. A weapon is a game element. Shooting is a game mechanic. Gameplay is using the game elements within the construct of the game mechanics.

You are completely correct. I'm really surprised this wasn't called out in either thread where this was posted.

There are some decent one-liners in there. I'm surprised they went with a played out Dark Souls joke as the closer/punch line.

It'd be more a accurate joke if it was about armor. The weapons in Dark Souls are absolutely brutal, it's the armor that's unrealistically shitty.

Heaviest armor in the game and you are still going to have the starting enemies make you their bitch.

maybe i'm missing something but armor is pretty much what carried me through Dark Souls first time through

Poise was infinitely more effective in DS1 than any other game going forward. Throughout the series though Fashion Souls is more prevalent as player skill increases. Looking awesome > tanking hits, especially when you don't tank hits because you already git gud'd at dodging.

Can't speak for PvP though.

This is especially true in PvP where nobody does a ridiculous amount of damage on a incredibly hard to avoid attack, so fashion outweighs stats, at least in DkS3. In DkS2 it was more about wearing stat boosting armor so you could get the most out of your SL and SM.

In DkS1 however, it was finding the right balance of poise, armor, fashion, stat investment, and rings. Armor was a much more meaningful choice in DkS1, and if toggling was exclusive to low poise characters it would've been even better.

I still feel like DkS1's armor and poise system were the way to go, just instead of being breakpoints (25% wt, 55 poise, etc etc) it should've been a sliding scale, like you roll faster the closer you get to 0%, and poise is like a %increase to recovery time, like say a weapon does 50 poise damage and you have 100 poise, you should recover 50% faster or something. Ah well though, the series is done, all we can do is hope for a spiritual successor to right its wrongs.

Oof. I would hate a sliding scale on armor. I'm pretty sure Dark Souls 2 has that. It's a very different decision to make.

Dark Souls 2 has the agility stat, which improves your rolls. It wasn't a terrible idea, but it made the early game very hard since your rolls were so bad. It didn't take much investment to get a reasonable amount of iframes, at least.

[–]Says_Stupid_Stuff_ 3ポイント4ポイント  (5子コメント)

Unless you are wearing super heavy armor, most armor don't help much against boss fights. Rings on the other hand are quite helpful.

Eh, you can "cheese" DS1 pretty easily by stacking Endurance to 40 and getting Havel's armor and ring. Hell by doing that you can literally facetank some bosses. But yeah you're right. Normally armor means jackshit, it's all about your weapon and rings and your ability to dodge/parry.

Giant's Armor set is actually better, as you can upgrade it with Twinkling Titanite, which you can't do with Havel's.

I'm on my first playthrough and a big fuckin' sword has been carrying me through.

I think it really depends on how you balance your stats and how you play. If you level vitality a bunch and upgrade your armor, you can probably tank pretty reliably. If you're like me, you leveled the shit out of strength and endurance almost exclusively with the concept of "it can't hit back if it's already dead" and "run away!"

I love that Alien Isolation Picture , it´s exactly what I experienced when I played the game. I was like "Wow a Revolver with actual Ammo in it , I saw Alien II , I mean they popped Aliens left right and center in that movie with propably less caliber in their guns , what could go wrong?" . Boy I was so wrong.

Borderlands: You have a weapon. It shoots acidic pellets that bounce off walls and it explodes everytime you reload.

I suddenly understand why Blizzard gave Bastion the birdie.

The Arma one is so true. I remember waiting 30 minutes for an EOD team (or any asshole with some C4) to arrive at an objective that we had cleared which needed 1 tank to be blown up, the only problem was how they decided at the last minute to kit up in Navy SEAL gear and take a boat across 3 miles of harbor to get to our position. So after 50 total minutes of waiting we finally see them on the horizon, lo and behold they hit a rock and beach their boat. After 10 minutes of them swimming over they finally arrive and ask us where the tank is. We point towards it and we see them place 1 charge to take it out, only problem was that it takes 2-3 to completely destroy the thing, they only brought 1 piece of C4. I quit the game immediately and still wish I had that hour of my life back.

i find it funny that in the dark souls one he actually do have the better weapon, ds3 was great but the weapon balance is horrible - atleast it was on release when i played it.

Someone comes around the corner and you panic press all the buttons, collectively shooting, bashing, jumping and throwing a grenade all at the same time before you immediately die because you need to "git gud".

You have a weapon

It better be the Battle Rifle

LOL @ The Division.

What a piece of shit game.

I loved it so much when it got released, but damn that game got boring and shit real quick.

This is The Division exactly

0 replay ability and repetitive content.

It's basically the exact opposite of Destiny.

And i've never ever tried Destiny, saw a copy of Destiny with the latest DLC for quite cheap but still didnt pick it up because I feel like it's really late to start playing now compared to people who put about 500+ hours into it

Ohhh

No, Destiny starts out boring as hell but has awesome endgame content, while The Division is fun until the endgame, when it get hit with a sack full of boring bricks.

you forgot the part where AI in Arma 2 knows where you are even while hiding in a bush 200m away with camo while prone without firing a shot.

STALKER CoP with Misery mod: You have a weapon. It is a PMm. It has five rounds. Make it count, because you won't see any more bullets for six hours at least.

Ha, yeah right, everyone knows the big enemies in Dark Souls are easy. I would mess that dude's day up with a sword.

It's the humanoid size enemies that are scary.

I've never heard a mechanic described as your weapon, and I really hate that description. That would mean non-combat focused games wouldn't have any mechanics, which obviously isn't true. A mechanic is any action available to a player or element of gameplay that directly impacts player choice. I know this is meant more to entertain than inform, but seeing misinformation being passed off as fact still bothers me.

"That would mean non-combat focused games wouldn't have any mechanics"

It says "A weapon is a game mechanic," not "Weapons are the only kind of game mechanics." It's like if I say "A Ford Mustang is a car," that doesn't mean that Mustangs are the only type of car.

I guess it could be interpreted that way, but I still get the impression that the artist is defining "mechanic" as "weapon", especially since it introduces the whole cartoon with "Ever wonder what the difference is between a game mechanic and gameplay?" and only ever gives weapons as examples. I know I'm probably getting more irritated by semantics than I should be, but I want these terms to hold their meaning. I probably wouldn't even be bothered by this if it weren't for that intro giving me the impression that the cartoon is about what game mechanics are.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I don't know if weapons could really be considered a mechanic. It isn't really a thing you do, and it isn't a system that changes what you do.

What the fuck are you talking about

He doesn't understand basic logic.

The game mechanic is more the ability to aim and shoot your weapon.

What about Star Wars Battlefront II?

You have a gun.

The enemy jetpacks right next to you, disrupts your gun, and hand cannons you.

Nice meme comic friend ;)

In my experience, the easiest way to get play of the game in Overwatch is to go Junkrat and get a well-placed rip-tire. Kill 3 in one go and you're almost guaranteed it.

It's a bummer too, cause mw2 could fill seats today had they done it right. It's inherently faster then csgo just cause spawns and health. But it had good level design and plenty of twitch shooting.

Metal Gear: You have 50 weapons. You only use two.

The CS:GO one should have been something along the lines of: "You have a weapon", "Now you need $10000 skins for your weapon"

Except skins aren't gameplay, so maybe you missed the whole point of the comic?

I only played Overwatch during the free trial time, but I certainly played my fair share during that time, and not once did I see Bastion get play of the game. It was almost always Reaper for doing his spin shooting on the objective, or D. Va for launching her suit at the objective.

I only played Overwatch during the free trial time

It's changed since then.

That's how it was when the game first came out, now people are getting alot better at the game and it's not that easy to get D.Va play of the game with her ulti or Reapers. Even Junkrat ulti is getting easier to avoid.
