My feelings exactly. I've build up (perhaps an) irrational hate for both Pepe and Ramos for how they play really rough and dirty but fall over like little girls whenever touched in order to get someone sent off. That said, I can't deny Pepe being one of the best players of the tournament, and especially in the final. He was outstanding.

Also why was Sissoko playing instead of Kante? They look much better in the midfield with Kante playing behind Pogba and Matuidi, which explains why Pogba was dropping deep.

Wasting Pogba's attacking talents when you ask him to defend more and trust Sissoko of all players to take his role.

tbf Sissoko was an absolute machine in the first half. I think he didn't know how to fit Kante into the team. Even though he started the tournament with him.

I think the issue is that they originally wanted to play Diarra behind and since he got injured they replaced him with Kante instead. However Kante didn't really fit like Diarra did so he got dropped and instead of playing with a DM like Schneiderlin or Cabye, they played a flat 3 midfield with Pogba and Matuidi dropping deep to cover the CB's.

The only problem with that is while Pogba/Matuidi can defend, they are much better further forward as box-to-box midfielders with a DM behind or paired with a DM. Since France were not playing with a DM, it meant Pogba dropped deeper which doesn't really utilize his talents properly. Matuidi didn't drop deep enough which meant Pogba had to, when I think Matuidi should of been the one to go deep more.

I agree that Sissoko had a great game. But surely if you play Kante where Pogba was playing and then Pogba where Sissoko was playing a player of Pogbas talents would've had a greater impact on the game than Sissoko

I really thought he was going to put that volley into the back of the net. Coman was pretty bad especially considering deschamps took out France's best player to get him on. Coman doesn't know how to pass and doesn't bring much besides pace, at least at this point in his career. If there are fingers to point in France, deschamps should be target number one.

It's less about what he did than the fact of what it does to the team. Deschamps tried to push griezemann back into more of a 10 role which is just a waste of talent, but it didn't matter because he drifted forward anyways leaving France with a 424 with coman gignac and sissoko being the primary outlets. Not only that, it left France's midfield exposed. You can't ask pogba and matuidi to hold a midfield of Portugal's quality in check.

As for coman specifically, the kid has talent, but I think it's pretty apparent he wasn't ready for a stage quite this large. He provided a nice spark when he came on, but after about 15 minutes Portugal adapted and Coman didn't have an answer. The number of times he opted to take on a defender instead of passing was ridiculous. He would be surrounded by 3 defenders and still ignore others making runs in front of him. I think coman has a lot of potential, but way too many people don't realize there's a difference between potential and production.

Having said that, I disagree with most of what you said. The french didn't have problems in dominating midfield, it was the wide areas and the final third where they were lacking. And Griezmann has been playing in and around the striker for the second half of the tournament. The same system worked pretty well before, so not sure what your point is.

Your second paragraph makes very little sense. Sure Coman is young and not proven, but so is Martial, there's no evidence that one is better than the other based on these tournament's performances.

Would I have liked seeing Martial? Sure, but only because I'm a biased United supporter. It's easy to criticize a national team coach for his selection after a loss. To be fair to him, it was a tight game, France created a few really good chances, just didn't finish them. I don't blame Deschamps at all.

*Annoyed that Martial didn't get more playing time, even though he hasn't been great, it is hard to impress with 5/10 minute cameos. Similar to Hodgson and not playing Rashford. Not saying Martial would of won the game or whatever, but he has stepped up multiple times for us this season so no reason why he can't do the same for France if he was given the chance.

Also, congrats to Nani and especially Ronaldo. I was upset that he had to come off and seeing him cry but I am so happy he has won. I think the Ballon D'or is his for sure this year and thoroughly deserved.
