Now maybe I am (Daley) blind, but I haven't seen anybody mention what I thought would be obvious enough. We went for Sanches, lost, and now Pogba is our £120M Plan B. I know there were a few articles stating that we had never made a big in the first place, but watching this kid in The Euros has me thinking that he's the next big thing (not literally big, like Anderson.)
So, who would you rather have? They're both young (18 and 23), physically strong central midfielders. They've both gotten international experience, and both were expensive. Sanches was a risk, but he seems to be getting more of the spotlight. We could've either risked buying him pre-Euros or bought him with more competition from the post-Euro hype. Pogba does seem like that he would come home, and he's the more polished of the two, but that comes at a price. £120m.
Pogba has had past attitude problems in the past, we know the best of that. Renato is young, but he's already gathered some controversy (albeit ludicrously ridiculous) which could've put him off his game, but it looks like he's powering through the public eye from his Euro performances.
As for Pogba, he has had some mixed performances in the Euros. Poor against Ireland, but great against other opposition. Maybe a once in a blue moon (fuck them) occurrence, or maybe inconsistency (which his Serie A stats and performances don't seem to show, albeit in such a heavily-dominated league). Meanwhile, Sanches is only proven at these Euros against some of Portugal's easy draws and to a certain extent, in the Portuguese domestic league. Not the best league, but too many stars have come from there to leave it unmentioned.
On a smaller note, Pogba most likely speaks English. Sanches probably doesn't.
I would like to hear all of your opinions.
