Any thoughts on Carrick and his play time this year? I think he will fit into our system well. He plays great penetrating passes and is amazing at tackling.

He's been kept more for his dressing room influence I suspect yet he'll do a job when he's called upon. Great decision by Mou imo, his experience is invaluable

I can see Carrick being used as JM used Obi-Mikel, someone to bring on to close out/see out a game already won.

I wouldn't say he's amazing at tackling, but he is a good reader of the game. If Mourinho does play a 4-3-3 next season Carrick can be the defensive pivot of the midfield 3... However I don't feel as though he is going to be Mourinhos first choice for the this position, but time will tell.

I like Carrick, I'd say his style is more intercepting as opposed to tackling. Will be interesting to see where he fits in because there are at least 3 other players who can play his position each with there own strengths (Schneiderlin, Blind, Schweinsteiger)

He will spend most of the season injured but when fit will be better than basically all our other midfielders (potential new signings not withstanding).

The last few years we've seen a higher win percentage when he's on the pitch than when not. Not sure what last seasons stats are and whether that's still the case.

The game against Arsenal was evident that without a partner that can cover for his lack of pace, teams with real pace and quality expose him. Although playing devils advocate, it didn't help that Schweinsteiger had what I think was his worse game last season chasing Santi's shadow high up the pitch and that left Carrick even more exposed.

Unlike Rooney playing deep, he can play well under pressure but doesn't have the legs to get up and down the field (and isn't expected to) so with the right system, I firmly believe he can continue to do a job against a large number of teams in the PL.

Will we see him on the pitch (starting or otherwise) 40+ games. Extremely unlikely. However, in terms of a calm, composed presence infront of the back four that can play under pressure, spread the play, keep the ball moving between defence and a higher-midfield/attack and be relied upon to be in the right positions when attacks breakdown I think he's (technically) the best blend of the above in the team. It's what many United players have praised him for over the years; when there's no options, Carrick is always in the right space to receive the ball and keep things ticking and those abilities aren't always physically demanding.

As others have said, his dressing room presence, mentality and experience of what it takes to win leagues/cups is still extremely valuable to the younger players.
