One of the most important things to do when it comes to lifting weights is to continuously educate yourself. Actually, this is true for everything in your life. The mistake most people make when it comes to progress is that they rely on the information they currently have. What they need is new information so that they can get different results. That being said...

Eating properly is key to your progress. Food is about 70 - 80% of your results. You can lift all you want, but if you're not taking in the right type of food, you won't be getting the results you desire.

Your macronutrient intake breakdown is important. The right mix of carbs, proteins and fats will help you bulk up. This is what I recommend for bulking:

  • Protein: 1 gram per pound of body weight
  • Carbs: 2 grams per pound of body weight
  • Fat: 1 gram per 3 pounds of body weight

You're 135 lbs, so your caloric intake would look something like this:

  • Protein: 135 grams (540 calories)
  • Carbs: 270 grams (1080 calories)
  • Fat: 45 grams (405 calories)
  • Total: 2025 calories.

Now, 2025 calories is what an average male should be consuming anyway, so if you don't see any gains, keep the same ratio, but just consume more so that you're eating 2500 - 3000 calories.

Ratio:

  • Protein: 27%
  • Carbs: 54%
  • Fat: 19%

This breakdown could be used for bulking. When you're finished bulking, your ratios need to change so that you take in more protein.

You need to build muscle. To build muscle, you need to lift heavy. Of course, you need to figure out what lifting heavy is for you. Try keeping your reps to a maximum of 6. If you can do 6 reps, add more weight. Do a search for "Guide to Muscle Hypertrophy" and check out some routines and to also get a general idea of the concept.

Hope this helps a little.

First, get on a real weight lifting program. Eat more. Stuff like rice and potatoes are very cheap. Look at whey as well. Milk and eggs are also great.
