For people who don't watch football,

If you've ever heard anybody say "daaa Bears," they're usually talking about Mike Ditka. Mike Ditka was the head coach of the 1985 Chicago Bears. The Chicago Bears had the meanest, toughest, arguably best defense in the history of the NFL that season. Buddy Ryan was the defensive coordinator, and genius, who made that all happen. When the Bears won the Super Bowl, they didn't just pick up and carry Ditka off the field (carrying the head coach off the field is a tradition). They carried Buddy too. That's how much he meant to them, as their coach, and to many of them, as their father figure.

Here is a picture of Ditka and Buddy being carried off the field.

Here are a couple players talking about what Buddy meant to them.

The 85 Bears defense left an impact on the NFL, and probably every single defense in the NFL today studies the 85 bears, and uses some of their concepts in their schemes.

The ESPN 30 for 30 film The 85 Bears is on Netflix and well worth watching if you want to learn more about his impact on the game and the men he coached.
