My dog, who has lived with me for 9 years, and who's allegedly lived for 28 years, died this past week. (self.Fuck2016)

Damned dog survived two poisoning events last year from trying to deal with his ticks. About a month ago, he starts growing a tumor in his mouth which grew so damn fast, there was even necrosis. He didn't make it out of the operation to get it removed. 2016 has been my least favorite year thus far.

Ah what a handsome fellow. My biggest fear when going to university was that my something would happen to my dogs while I was away. I finished uni this year and barely a fortnight before I go home mum tells me my German shepherd had passed away. Last I saw her was Christmas. Broke my heart.

Fuck man I'm so sorry. I had a yellow lab who passed away last night and I still can't believe the house is so empty. If he was 28, I'm sure he had a damn full life and must've loved you lots to stick around for so long. Stay strong brother.

But 28 is incredible. That must be as old as any dog who has ever lived.

So there's that, anyway. Seems like your dog really milked life for the maximum.

A similar thing is currently happening to my cat. Two weeks ago he was perfectly fine, and then out of nowhere a gigantic tumor is growing in his mouth. We're putting him down this Wednesday.

I'm right here with you OP, losing a pet to me is no different from losing any other family member.

It's definitely like losing a family member. He slept with me in my room and would follow me around if I left the room for too long, mostly because he knew I'd be in the kitchen looking for food! It's hit me pretty bad, not having him around after 9 years of sleeping with him, it's truly tough on my mental stability.

Good luck with your cat, I can't imagine the pain of having to knowingly put a pet who's part of the family down =/
