Any opinions on who starts and what formation we play next year?

This is what I'd love to see:

          De Gea

Darmian Smalling Bailly Shaw

    Herrera Schneiderlin

Mkhitaryan Rooney Martial

      Ibrahimovic

Carrick and Blind will be rotated for Schneiderlin's spot. Basti and Herrera will fight for the other CM spot. Mata and Rooney will play the #10.

Wow Herrera is sooo overrated on here. he was one of our worst players last season and Schweinstieger is miles better than him at controlling games.

Never got a consistent run in the team and wasnt a good fit with van Gaal. Best attacking football we've played the last two seasons coincided with his rise in form.

Which lasted how long exactly? I am not saying Herrera was the only one who underperformed but people on this sub take his great guy persona to mean the same thing as the a really good footballer. He is a great guy, but he has shown nothing that says starting 11.

I would fairly say Herrera hasn't had enough opportunities to prove himself as worthy of a starting spot. He is best as a #10 with his attacking proficiency, but LVG never fancied him in that position, instead benching him most of the time or played him deeper beside Schneiderlin.

Certainly hope Mourinho gives him at least a game in pre-season as the #10. It can be very exciting if we see a three men competition between Rooney, Mata & Herrera for a single #10 spot. Every one of them will have to work very hard to impress the gaffer for their game time then.

I agree with your statement. Maybe he wasn't used right and maybe the system didn't work to his skill set. But all I am saying is that he didn't show anything last season that shows he could be a regular in the team especially if we want to challenge for "everything." Now, could Mou get the best out of him and make him into a guaranteed starter? I hope so.

is misguided considering he didn't fit the system or get a consistent run in the team.

That best attacking football was more due to Carrick being at the base of the midfield. Remember how shit we were before and after he got injured that season.

Lots of factors but my main point is that the system was more fit to his strengths because we didn't play strict possession based football. Anyways, I was just saying that the fact he was one of our "worst players last season" isn't a reason to keep him away from the team.

Honestly I would prefer a Blind/Schneiderlin or Blind/Schweini double pivot. Mainly because I rate Blinds defensive awareness and long ball distribution way higher than all of them and I view Morgan/Basti more as box to box players. Either way we lack a bully midfielder Mourinho teams are known to have.

First half against France Basti showed he can still do fantastic sheilding the backline

His defending was poor in that game and he was absolutely gassed by half time

Even his passing in the first half was all six yards sideways balls with Kroos doing all the incisive stuff.

And this is before getting into how he will spend half the season injured

There won't be one consistent XI that starts every league game but the XI I would choose would be this. A lot wouldn't call Schweinsteiger a deeper controlling type midfielder and a lot would have Schneiderlin over Schweinsteiger and Darmian over Valencia but this is my personal choice

Our Mid would be the least dynamic in the league. I'd move Mkhi to 10 and have a Depay/Rashford or even a Young at the wing. Otherwise this one is decent.

Mind blowingly slow and uncreativw midfield three.

6 yard sideways passes from Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger while Rooney humps a bunch of pointless 40 yard lofted balls at the full backs.

No thanks

It's like most of you didn't even watch us play last season.

We need some pace and dynamism in midfield not a mix of washed up has been's and water carriers.
