As I sit here at home after a weird day at work on my 52nd birthday, and a few people telling me they would get a hold of me earlier in the day to see about getting a drink or two, I've come to a place in my life where I have figured out expectations.
First off, never lower your expectations. That only sets you up for disappointment and puts you in a position to be used. Instead, expect nothing and be ready to just do for yourself. Then the only person who can disappoint you is you.
Don't be passive aggressive about the failed plans that others tried and failed to set up for you. Just let it go and be ready with your own plans.
If you allow others to make you feel disappointed with their actions, then you have given them the opportunity to do it again. Just move on and continue with your path.
Any viewpoints on this would be appreciated. I'm in my own little "happy birthday, I made it another year" evening of relaxation and some good Irish whiskey and would be open to hear others thoughts on expectations.
