WHAT IS "CINEMATOGRAPHY"?

"Cinematography" pertains to the art and technology of motion-picture photography. Through the use of lighting, composition, equipment choice, and a variety of other factors, a cinematographer is able to tell or enhance a given story.

RULES

1: Posting your own work

  • Self created content is only to be posted on "Self-Post Saturday." This includes, but is not limited to: reels, short films, corporate videos, travel videos, experimental films...etc.
  • Self-posts must be accompanied by no less than a 300 character description of the project. This includes, but is not limited to: what camera/film the project was shot on, techniques used, lights used, difficulties and limitations experienced during production, ...etc.

2: No solicitation

  • Solicitation of any kind will not be permitted. This means job listings, crowdfunding, equipment sales/rentals, ...etc

3: Opinions

  • Art is a highly subjective field. Thusly, opinions can sometimes be divisive. However, one would do well to refrain from down-voting opinions that do not align with their own. Conflicting opinions are what make for constructive and intellectual discussions.

4: Labeling Posts

  • In an effort to organize the wide array of posts, the sub will broken up into 6 categories:
  1. Lighting
  2. Camera
  3. Composition
  4. Post and the DI
  5. Self-Post
  6. Poll
  7. Other
  • When posting, flair your post with the desired category. If not sure which it should be placed in, choose "[Other]".

As you probably remember, this sub was dead. u/lkmeq created the sub and was the only mod. He did nothing with the sub at all. u/leanord12 who is a mod of a few subreddits, got in contact and offered to become a mod and revamp the sub. I think we can all agree this sub looks and functions on a whole new level. Great job u/leanord12! u/leanord12 asked me to become a mod because I was giving lots of my 2 cents when he asked for feedback. Sure happy to help where I can.
u/leanord12 then managed to merge with r/truecinematography to create a super-duper sub, including lots of great mods. I then decided to move from Sydney to Calgary, so I wasn't paying attention as I knew the sub was in good hands. I just opened my mod mail. I was wrong.
u/lkmeq, the useless owner threw a tantrum over... how great the sub is now? I don't get it. Anyway, in a brilliant display of a man mad with power, as started deleting any mod that opposes him. u/leanord12 - KICKED, u/jjSuper1 - KICKED - u/Captain-Cuddles - Kicked as soon as dick-face logs in, Me - Kicked after he reads this post.
So that's the news kids. Up vote for visibility, so some people might see it before it get deleted.
Who knows, look out for a new sub thats not controlled by Stalin.

Although I'm sure it will be promptly deleted, I'll comment while I can.
I'd ask that we avoid ad hominem when it comes to /u/lkmeq. I'm not sure of his motives, but the fact of the matter is that it's his sub. If he thinks the direction I was trying to take it was compromising his vision of the sub, then that's his prerogative.
That doesn't mean I'm not disappointed. I've grown to care very much about this community for whatever reason, and I hate to see my efforts seemingly go to waste. What disappoints me more is that the users will suffer because of the moderator squabbles, and that's the worst outcome.
Either way, thanks for putting up with me while I was around, and I hope this sub can find a direction that will serve to benefit the users as they need most.

You're giving the guy too much credit. The fact that they were the first person to type "cinematography" into the create-a-subreddit box shouldn't mean it's their community - it belongs to the people who built it up. It's a shame that /u/lkmeq doesn't realise that. :/

God damn it man, stop being so nice and diplomatic. Are you trying to run for office? I wish you could actually. This is like Hitler's Germany - u/ikmeq's Subreddit. I didn't do shit to make this sub good, but you and the other mods did and I'm angry. It's 1 am and I am bashing away on my keyboard. Get Angry mate.
There needs to be a reddit mechanism to stage a coup, even a War of Independence.

The best metaphor I could offer would be: Imagine you're a 13 year old boy sitting in your room playing video games, not doing your homework. Your room is absolutely filthy. Your dad comes in and starts to clean around you while you continue to play video games. He's not asking you to help or even to stop playing video games. The only thing he asks is that you let him clean, so you thank him graciously by kicking him out of your room.

This makes me really sad. This sub finally got its shit together thanks to the amazing new moderators. I'll be eagerly awaiting to hear the exit strategy. I vote to revamp r/truecinematography into what this sub has become!
