Idiocracy is already here.

Even without that... why would you want to facilitate a child that is half "you" to be placed into the hands of the kind of women* who need to get pregnant via a sperm donor.

Seriously. Why? Do you have some sort of sadistic desire to punish some future bastard children?

And please, don't give me the BS about "continuing your genetic line" -- it really isn't "yours" -- you certainly didn't do anything to create or even select the particular random combination of genes that comprise "you" (and really neither did your parents, they too merely passing on the combinations they were saddled with, etc).

* People can regurgitate the marketing BS and prattle on about "infertile couples" all they want; the reality is that increasingly "sperm donor" and IVF are being used to further the aims of a combination of both lesbians, and extreme feminist "don't need a man" types, as well of course as "post wall" women whose fertility has taken a massive nose dive (in which case they often not only use sperm banks, but also egg banks).

You are 150% correct. I didn't think it through.

Seriously. This is one of the things that both KEPT me from getting married/having a family, and which also gives me some "peace of mind" with the fact that I don't have children.

It wasn't so much JUST the idea that a woman/mother of my children could "divorce-rape" me, and then use the children as a sort of "weapon" to obtain even more money/resources from me (or "enslave" me).

It was the fact that... I would have felt HORRIBLE for having enabled (or been a participant in) a scenario where MY children would be under the control of such a person; and moreover where *I* would essentially be "powerless" (even more so than most men already are, given the "mandatory schooling laws" etc.) as to how the children were raised.

I simply could NOT abide the idea of that; and the more I thought about it, the ONLY way that I would want (or agree) to have children would be if I had at least SOME substantial assurance that I would retain custody of them, control over their home & education, as well as "responsibility" for their needs. Basically DEFAULT father custody.

Anything else -- and there is alas, zero chance or mechanism to create THAT in our current society (other than being a single dad via a surrogate*) -- would be a "dealbreaker" for me.

* something that has really only become viable VERY recently; and isn't without it's own additional concerns/complications (IVF is prone to problems: birth defects, etc).

Exactly. It really is a matter of morals and ethics. We know now the a child without his biological father will suffer in life.

Regardless of the fact that he will have good genes, the mother will screw him up to where he will not be in a position to leverage them for any potential good in this world or himself.

It is not nature vs nurture in this case but a matter of both working together. Good genes are one thing but to take that person and set him on a path with a solid foundation of principles and knowledge is an entirely different thing and not something to be taken lightly.

You sir are a rock of wisdom here. Seriously guys, thrownaway is a wise man and somebody that we should all admire and look up to.

Keep it coming brother.

Re: If it weren't for the morons, etc. We've had some good starts with science with the Babylonians and Greeks and Romans until those wacky christians burned down the library at Alexandria. Then Islam was going good in science for three hundred years until the fundamentalist wackos shut that down. Now it seems that the morons have taken over again and we're heading for a new dark age.
