Silly season has returned for the 4th summer on /r/reddevils!

Most of you know the drill.

For those who don't...From today until the window closes, a transfer round-up & discussion thread will be made every day. In these threads, ANYTHING can be talked about. Any player, in or out, any transfer fee, anything!

Now, with these threads starting, this means that rumours submitted as separate posts will be removed unless they are from reliable sources!

Midfield is still our weakest position.

Pogba, Kroos, Verratti, Modric, Iniesta, Rakitic, Vidal, Busquets, Ozil, Rodriguez

We need players of that caliber. We need some world class back in midfield!

Do you think that Rooney has a position in this midfield? I'd read that Mourinho plans for Pogba and Rooney to play ahead of a deeper-lying midfield man. I think Schweinsteiger or Schneiderlin could do a fine job in that deep role, but ahead in those two CM positions the two questions are: a) can Rooney actually do a job? b) Who the eff do we get if not for Pogba? Are any of the players of the Kroos, Modric, Busquets, Rodriguez caliber even realistic?

Would you be happy with our current signings, if we were to close up shop after Miki? 3 players, filling 3 gaps we needed. The only arguable place i'd say is CM, and it's hardly the end of the world if we don't get anyone.

No I wouldn't be happy. An injury to Xlatan and Mkhi would leave us with basically the same team as last season. Want to add some more quality if we want to win the league.

Backups to Zlatan and Miki are Rashford and Mata. Whilst i agree they may not be as good, we're not playing unproven players. Plus, we'll be managed totally differently.

Who else do you want brought in?

Mata is looking likely to be sold, I don't think we can count him as a sure thing back up player for next season. Lozano looks to be our best shout for rotation/back up and it's yet to be seen whether or not he can cut it outside the Mexican league.

Memphis is still up in the air, could be good next season, could be shit again.

I would sign the best midfielder we can, we desperately need someone who is better than just average.

I dont think Mata will be 2nd choice for RW. If he stays, he might be behind Rooney in the pecking order for CAM. So right now, we have Young, Januzaj, Lingard and Valencia too.

Just one or two additions. Pogba would be incredible, but if not, just one or two. Also, I was working on the presumption that Mata will leave. If not, I'd be relatively happy with things. I still remain to be entirely convinced by the defence, but hopefully Darmian improves on his second season, Shaw and Valencia stay injury free, and Bailly settles in.

In terms of attacking players, we have Memphis, Januzaj, Pereira and Rashford, Wilson and maybe even Mata. We also have Carrick and Schweini for CM, so Herrera can play No.10, Rooney can play up front.

Yes and no. With our squad right now, I'd still expect us to challenge for the title and I don't think that's too unrealistic. However, if we bring in a class CM (Pogba pls), then that should allow us to seriosuly contest on all fronts this year.

That being said, I'd live without a CM this window. I feel the class is there to get minimum top 4/title push, and we can go hard for a class CM next window that will help with our CL run.

Will Martial/Schneiderlin/Darmian/Zlatan be fit to start by that stage? I assume they'll have at least a couple of weeks off...

Unless we get a better player than Schneiderlin / Herrera / Carrick / Schweini, pretty happy with CM. Matuidi is on the same level, so I really wouldn't want to see him at United.

Also depends on whether Mourinho is going to play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 with 1 holding midfielder.
