My uncle is a cop. I hate the police. But I know what he stands for and he stands for actual justice he didn't join for the money, he tells me stories of how if he knows some scum are going to get away with it, he roughs them a bit.

No amount of good intentions can make up for being the enforcement arm of capital.

Well either he makes it retirement otherwise i'll have to fight him. You think from the statement above that i'm an apologist for the police, just becasue he's family. Doesn't mean I won't hurt him for the benefit of the many.

No, not necessarily. I'm just pointing out that intention can't make up for action.

Well, i'm willing to do whats necessary even if it's a hard choice to make.

I disagree. I'm majoring in sociology and becoming a cop is a viable option for me. I'm anti-capitalism but feel that changing the system from within is worth trying. If I became a cop every person I didn't charge with a victimless crime would be a protest of the system.

Gross, a liberal.

I don't think breaking the law as a cop is a liberal move

You're telling us that your uncle engages in police brutality and you're expecting us to sympathize?

This is for people that actually deserve it.

[–]CronoDroid 4ポイント5ポイント  (3子コメント)

Nobody deserves that, if they've done something wrong they deserve to be tried and locked up, not beaten on. In any case, if what you say is true and he "only" beats up actual scumbags then that's a half measure Walter. But nobody should go down that path because the police taking the law into their own hands almost always leads to abuse.

The police are MEANT to protect and serve the people, they don't, but they're meant to. Nevertheless it's irresponsible to set a precedent where it's okay for cops to hurt or kill people without due process. If you wanna carry out vigilante justice you shouldn't be doing it wearing a badge and a uniform in my opinion.

No, police are meant to project State power onto the State's populace.

I'm talking in a utopian sense, I'm very much aware of what they actually do, in more ways than one. I presume an entity like "tha police" will exist in the revolutionary/transitional stage, even if it is in the form of a People's Militia/Protection Service/whatever. Their role will definitely be to perform the aforementioned functions.

Pragmatically speaking, societies should try and ensure state organizations like the police behave as ethically as possible even though we're still living in an unjust capitalist system. To that end I don't see the harm in suggesting, ideally, the police should be protecting and serving the people.

In Communism the community are the ones that dole out justice and mercy, the people living in tye areas decide what a person should get.

There is no police.

And the fact that arrogant, power-tripping cops think they have a right to decide who "deserves" it is part of the problem. Hint: the people who "deserve" it are overwhelmingly likely to be black and poor.
