Silly season has returned for the 4th summer on /r/reddevils!

Most of you know the drill.

For those who don't...From today until the window closes, a transfer round-up & discussion thread will be made every day. In these threads, ANYTHING can be talked about. Any player, in or out, any transfer fee, anything!

Now, with these threads starting, this means that rumours submitted as separate posts will be removed unless they are from reliable sources!

It's not the worst. He's an asset to the PL but just too slow and defensively weak for Jose's setup. Still think we should get 25m+ for him if we can. Honestly don't see him starting for United in any competition with Mkhi coming in and he's too good for the bench.

How long left on his contract here? I'd say 25m is too low, especially to a fellow prem club. I'd be disappointed with that honestly.

Can he really do much better though? Everton are looking to become a solid club and are seemingly ready to spend large amounts with their new owner. People need to realise that Mata hasn't performed for 3 seasons in a row now. He's already 28 years old and is supposed to be in his prime but it could be possible that he peaked early. When we bought him I expected someone like Rodriguez but he has never performed for us consistently.

Don't look too deep into last season's position, Martinez is simply a shit manaer.

Can't understand the 'hasnt performed' thing. Especially as he's played under 2 managers who have both been sacked for poor football.

He's been incredibly important. He's scored against Liverpool, City, in the FA Cup final, numerous winning goals and important assists. He may not have met expectations of some, but I think he's a fantastic player to have and do not want to see him leave.

Everton is a step down there's no doubt. When have Everton been good in the PL? Highest they've ever finished is 4th.

So you'd say he has performed for us? All those times where he was invisible, slow, weak, constantly ruining counter attacks and slowing down play are completly ignored because he had some good moments in 3 seasons of being a regular starter? If he didn't have those moments he would be thanking god Everton came close to him. He had 6 goals and 5 assists in 38 games last season, 9 goals and 4 assists the season before that and 6 goals and 4 assists the season before that (These stats are PL only), are you telling me he is too good for Everton with those stats? Even if he spent parts of that on the wing facts are he was still dissapointing at CAM or did you forget all the times where people were begging for him to play at CAM only for him to do nothing the entire game?

Of course Everton is a step down, I doubt anyone will tell you otherwise. I'm convinced Everton can get a Europa league spot for next season with the right investments and that's what Mata is based on the last 3 seasons, a Europa League player.

He's not been great, but has certainly been useful. It can be put down to horrible football that we played, which wasn't just him. If everyone was having good seasons around him whilst he was stuck in the mud i'd accept it, but he was on pace with even our best attacking players last season. Nobody was exceptional all season long and attacking wise we were awful, he can't be singled out.

I don't think he will stay cause Jose doesn't like his style. But i think if he wanted to make it work with Mata, he probably could with a better play style.

I wouldn't see them as an attractive prospect IMO. I hope we dont sell to another PL team.

Martial has been great ever since he came here. Even 18 year old Rashford has performed well in this system.

Once you are unable to perform under 3 different managers you have to wonder if you might be the problem.

Marital and Rashford are 2 natural strikers to be fair.

He may be the problem yes, but he has not had a spell at Utd under a manager playing decent football. Mata won POTY twice at Chelsea when he had a team built around him. He has not had that chance at Utd. If Mou were to give him a chance i think he'd be great, but we already have other options, especially in a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3

Definitely. In his defence he's had two ropey managers, but then I guess he now has a manager who didn't have a lot of faith in him, so that's not great either.

I actually think Real Madrid are in some slump. They are getting punished by the Financial Fair Play rules soon, and that means they have spent as much or more money than they have.

The new premier league money kicks in now, United can easilly afford him.

Madrid have hit the wall on their Wages supposedly. Which is why Kroos and James (and to a lesser extent, Benzema) have all been names floating around lately. Perez is insane with spending, but he never lets the wage bill exceed 50% of the total income.

Signing Pogba and sticking him on a silly wage means about 4 others instantly get pay increases to match the old 'Galatico' wage setup they offer to superstars.

Talk of the young one Will Hughes being on Mourinho's shortlist. Tipped as a potential midfield ace for years but is coming off a rough injury. I would fully condone the club taking a shot on him. He is English and if there is one thing our academy and youth teams is lacking it's the box to box playmaking presence in the center of the midfield.

Not OP, not even sure on the whole sign a top 10 centre mid thing but was just interested in thinking about who that would be and what other people think. So mine, completely bias and off the top of my head, would be, and in no particular order

Verratti, Iniesta, Kroos, Modric, Matuidi, Rakitic, Pogba, Marchisio, Vidal, De Rossi

It's tough, honourable mentions to Tiago, Alonso, Krychowiak, Pjanic, Koke, and lots of others I've forgotten.

I guess what I've learnt though, is that I'd be very surprised if we signed a top 10 CM, maybe top 20/25 would be more realistic
