Man...that is a serious fuck load of money. Fucken do it.

Definitely would pay that for Pogba, I don't think he'd spent his entire career here but for sure we could build a team around him for a few years. He's that good.

Still think we need a midfielder. A World class one.

If we don't get Pogba, having Renato stolen from under our nose will hurt, that kid keeps looking better and better every day.

Strange we didn't announce Mkhitaryan today but Dortmund did. I wonder why that was

Probably them jumping the gun after accepting the bid. We're probably waiting for medical/contract officially signed.

Bit unprofessional, especially after them poking fun at us and City for our league positions etc.

Dortmund probabky want to get him out the way and focus on their own signings. He's already in Manchester so I'd assume medical/contract/pictures/#MkhiTime/announcement will be tomorrow/day after tomorrow

Assuming we don't get Pogba (because I don't want to get my hopes up) what other CMs do you think we'll be in for? Also do you think we'll be signing an additional CB?

Side question, who gets sold and how much can we get for them?

It doesn't seem like there are many WC ready available for us to pickup. If Madrid make waves in the Market you can bet we will attempt to pick up either Kroos or James.

Honestly, do you guys think we need Pogba? In my opinion, our midfield is pretty solid.

  • We don't have much creativity in our midfield.
  • Two of our midfielders are at the wrong side of 30.
  • Fellaini is a wildcard.
  • Schneiderlin hasn't really adapted well yet.
  • Herrera is wildly inconsistent (a solid run of matches might solve that).

I still think our midfield is decidedly average.

Schweiny isn't top tier anymore and doesn't have the impact he used to. Carrick can still be amazing but his consistency is going. Herrera and Schneiderlin have both been solid if unspectacular but I expect both of them to improve under Mou. Fellaini is a square peg for a round hole. Mata who knows what's gonna happen with him..

Well, we have a lot of midfielders but no one that is really world class.

There's not many midfields in the world that wouldn't be improved by the addition of Pogba

[–]HuzaifaElahiTony Henry 5

  1. Herrera is good at best, bang average if not given his lack of consistency.

  2. Schweinsteiger can't be relied on to stay fit and is well over the hump.

  3. Carrick is out of legs.

  4. Schneiderlin is solid and I think he can do well under Jose, fair enough but not exactly a prospective world class player either.

  5. Fellaini is a detriment in midfield.

  6. Blind is exceptionally average in midfield and shouldn't be more than a rotational option for any serious title contenders.

  7. Rooney is also over the hump and his midfield reliability remains to be seen.

  8. TFM is too raw to even be considered for the first team.

  9. Mata should be on his way really.

A big bunch that can play there doesn't make it a good bunch - I think our midfield is bang average, one midfielder is an absolute must, letting one go and buying two wouldn't be a crazy demand either if it wasn't too big of a one window overhaul. It's not even a case of young names not being there yet, they just genuinely aren't good enough and are unlikely to be good enough - Morgan and Herrera aren't kids and Blind lacks the skillset for example.

Our midfield looks like shit compared to say, Arsenal, let alone the elite sides.

How come to many jose will make memphis better, but dont say the same for our midfielders?

Age.

Herrera and schneid got a good 4 years to be had with us. Herrrra could easily play the oscar while schneiderlin can go back to his so'ton form.Matic had his best season under jose at the same age.

Memphis is a lot younger and looks like he could be world class, Carrick and Schweini are old, Hererra hasn't ever show WC potential IMO, Fellaini the same and Schneiderlin whilst he could be solid again I don't think ever showed potential like Memphis.

[–]HuzaifaElahiTony Henry 0

Memphis should improve by age - he's 22. Morgan, Blind and Herrera are 26 - supposedly in their prime or on the verge of it - he can make them better, not harder after last season under LvG (maybe barring Blind) but not good enough. Xhaka, a fit Wilshere, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil - they all waltz into our team.

Matic was the same age when he got bought again and playing in a top 3 league for the first time aswell

[–]HuzaifaElahiTony Henry 0

He was 24/25 but more importantly, had a superior skillset - you can just look at Blind and what he's physically and technically capable of to see that he simply doesn't have much of a ceiling.

Blind is technically very good but i agree with his physicallity

[–]HuzaifaElahiTony Henry 0

Technically good for a LB or a CB and is good with reliable passes to recycle possession - he's not much of a dribbler, his touch isn't anything special and he takes a fair few touches to get the ball out of his feet (similar to Mata) and slows down play. I'll give him credit for his good long ball distribution though.

We have - Herrera, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Carrick & Rooney for CM positions. Blind can play there too. The issue we have is that Rooney & Blind aren't natural midfielders, and Carrick & Basti are ageing. Rooney isn't young himself.

Depends what formation we play I think. If we play a 4-2-3-1 i dont see the need for another midfielder right now. We'd be stacked If we play a 4-3-3, Pogba signing would make more sense...

If we don't sign him i wont be too disappointed.

LVG and all that, but we did look shite in midfield for huge portions of last season. There's nobody dynamic who can carry the ball or pose a threat on goal.

Schweinsteiger, Carrick, Rooney are injured often and all take time to get back to form.

Fellaini isn't good enough. We know that.

Herrera might be decent in a three but I don't think he's starter quality for Manchester United. Conceptually I think of him as being similar to Rojo: top targets weren't available but we needed a competent body. He will be a squad player next term.

Schneiderlin is good enough but needs support.

I actually think Herrera is a lot better than what we've seen so far. He looked quality in that run of games towards the end of the first season under LVG where we beat City, Liverpool etc, linked up really well with Mata, imagine what he could do with Mkhitaryan! I think if Herrera is given a little more freedom (I know Mou isn't mr freedom) he could really excel, we won't be as rigid as we have been the last 2 seasons.

I actually think Herrera is a lot better than what we've seen so far.

Agree, but if a player like Pogba is attainable…

I'd drop Ander for Pogba in a heartbeat! But I'm happy for him to have a chance if no top class options are available this summer.

There are a few subs on reddit where you will get upvoted for posts relevant to the topic that help drive debate, and downvotes don't mean "I disagree with your perspective." This is not one of those subs.

[–]Junkrg 0

I can think of a few reasons You just asked a question without any sort of explanation. Secondly, you said our midfield was solid, which I think majority of people would agree, but why can't we get better ? Third, you asked if we need to add a world class player to our squad. Yes we need to add as many world class players to our squad regardless of what position they play. We are United, we make a lot of money, we need to spend money to improve our squad.

Why do you care about downvotes

really? I don't think so at all, Mata is okay, Herrera is inconsistent, Carrick/Schweini are over 30, Fellaini can do a job and Schneiderlin didn't have a great season. I'd love to see Pogba and Herrera with Schneiderlin behind. Or Pogba with Rooney and Herrera behind and Schweini protecting the defence.

I guess, but i believe Shnederlin and Herrera can become great midfielders under Mourinho, and hoping our midfield will consift of Rooney-Herrera-Schenderlin. Perhaps even have Schewsteiger instead of Schnederlin or Herrera. I do agree that we Fellaini is a wildcard and could be useful in some situations.

Mata to Everton ???

[–]HuzaifaElahiTony Henry 1

Almost sure he'd be Spain bound if he leaves

[–]Junkrg 0

Not sure about that. He has played in England too long not sure if he would go back.

[–]HuzaifaElahiTony Henry 0

Playstyle in Spain suits him much better, would probably be wanted by any of the non top-3 sides in the league there.

Talksport only people I can find reporting it first hand. Would be a surprise.
