Darmians makes sense. He's a defender, he put it on target but he didn't take it with a lot of confidence.

Left over LVG influence more like it. Mourinho will bring their confidence back.

Edit: You guys are misunderstanding. Just because LvG won penalty shootout outs doesn't mean he hasn't dropped a players confidence throughout the season. Due to both Darmian and Schweinsteiger not having the best season I feel this may have subconsciously influence their confidence when the pressure was the highest. Obviously there are other factors and is just speculation.

LvG's got one of the best penalty records in football. I'm pretty sure Mourinho's lost his last 2 shootouts.

Basti's always been a bottler at penalties for Germany. There was a shootout where he started crying and refused to take his shot.
