Well... I think they're using 'liberal' in the sense of liberalism, rather than 'liberal' in the sense that it's typically used in American politics. Think 'liberal' like in 'classical liberal'.

No they use it in the sense of social liberal too. They see support for welfarism as a crony method of keeping capitalism on its last legs and a way to get useful idiots to support capitalism, whereas arcon hates welfarism as a method to get useful idiots to support socialism. Hence the hilarity in how similar their rhetoric can get, especially since alot of tankies are actually pretty socially conservative.

      The reasoning is that even with their differences both ultimately support and buttress capital. While some may seek to regulate it for its own good both support and uphold the capitalist system. The term liberal gets this similarity across.
