never used it, maybe that's why people find the tank controls so hard to use? because with the dpad theyre incredibly easy controls

that in game screenshot is from in game, here's another and another, you can see Claire is far less detailed and flat, the face is expressionless, and her model is more pointy and easier for the game to process, one example is just looking at her bangs - in the 'in game cutscene' it's just two pieces parted at the center, but the in game model has wisps of hair hanging down (heres another screenshot for the fuck of it)

so, now the cutscenes

this is the type of cutscene that happens most, it uses the in-game physics and environments and lighting so the immersion isn't broken, but not character models (because they move in a more complex way) - they're not pre rendered tho, they're made to look like the in game models (but i just explained, theyre actually different)

these in game cutscenes are far less standard to what i refer to as the partially rendered cutscenes, these don't use the in game lighting, physics or sounds, the models are the same used in the standard cutscenes for claire's character but slightly more rendered with more complex lighting (and for some reason look more washed out) - an example is the first zombie encounter, it starts off as an 'in game' cutscene but then it changes into the less common more prerendered cutscene we see

why i say this is different to the fully rendered cutscenes are because there are far more details in the fully rendered versions, compare the cutscene from steves death and how the renders look totally different to the 'fully rendered' scenes used in, for example, the opening or the ending

yeah i remember the first zombie scene because it starts out like in game graphics then she falls over and it switched to the fmv graphics which looks the same tbh but more real and that was significantly washed out and bluer but i remember thinking it wasnt "cutscene" claire bc thats now how she looked in the opening scene, haha always bugged me

i assume maybe they got round to rendering only some of the scenes fully bc of budget or hardware or something lmao

that tyrant battle was at such a horrible point in the game, i ran out of ammo all together and had to finish him with the knife - still my proudest achievement haha

Revelations 1 felt handled better and more finished, for some reason I feel like the graphics were better than Revelations 2 as well

It's a shame because I love what Rev2 tried to do, and Claire's my favorite character ever, but finishing it left me quite unsatisfied. The enemies were not very creative and there were not many varieties that by the end of the 3rd chapter you'd already faced pretty much all of them and anything from then on out was just going to be something you've faced before - and you know it's bad when the game makes you face the same boss type multiple times

i didn't like rev1's flashbacks or chris sequences, though i wasn't too fond of how rev2 handled the episodic format, it was annoying going back and forth and often doing the same/similar things with barry, and the story didn't feel right - and the 6 months thing was just awkward and i felt only existed for that one "oh shit" moment at the end of barry's ep1, after that it was a chore to work into the story

it also felt very cliche for a horror game of the times and just borrowed whatever was popular, it felt like a cheap version of the last of us tbh

raid mode was fun for a while, and i think it's got my favorite mechanics out of all the RE games, but something about rev1 just feels more finished - and atmospherically it's amazing

I love this post and I'm obsessed with talk of the RE soundtrack

I think the earlier games used a lot of false soundscapes such as RE2's First Floor theme, as well as being perfectly moody there is the sound of ambience like what sounds like a creaking floor and then a smash which would be anything in the distance

Though while this was acceptable in older games, one reason I think games don't do this today is because they go for hyper realism, if you're in an older resident evil you stand still for a few seconds and you begin to hear a loop and you know it's just that room's BGM playing, wheras later games have all sorts of random/overlayed ambient sounds so it sounds like you're actually there - you could stand outside for a few seconds in a later game and between all the distant sounds, wind, character's breathing etc etc it never sounds much like a fabricated loop but more of a simulation - and i think this is one key to everything being forgettable; because we don't hear the same thing over and over again as much - in addition to this, the games give us many more realistic sound effects to go with the music, that the music isn't the only thing we hear once again. You hear the character move, talk, aim their weapon, check items, breathe, footsteps are incredibly realistic now, and I feel the music isn't a loud overpowering main focus that it used to be (sometimes i go in the settings and have the BGM be louder than all other sounds just so it feels more like old school RE)

Of course, there is the definite reason behind the music also being way more generic and orchestral, Darkside Chronicles is a good example of the comparison between older and newer music (though it itself is an old game), the renditions of previous RE2/RECVX tracks are good, but only good in that they are an expansion on what we already know and love, all original elements are pretty generic and as you say orchestral (with one or two exceptions), then you look at something like RE6 and the whole thing is massive orchestrated and distant and not as personal or memorable

This concerns both RE7's atmosphere but also the response to RE2's REmake - an upgrade and recreation is welcome, but I don't want their approach to the music to result in us getting a generic and forgettable albeit higher budget soundtrack once more

i think maybe, but tbh if theyve said the demo is just to add to the atmosphere and possibly the backstory i see no reason that the character we play HAS to be the main character in the main game, and though it does feel there are a lot of things to find out and loose ends not tied that could potentially go unaddressed, it still kinda makes sense to me

I feel exactly the same, I'm mostly bummed about Degeneration; I love Claire but she always gets cast aside halfway through anything she's in, Code Veronica, Degeneration, Revelations 2 - and the film(s) itself did get dull and predictable
