Figure drawings portraying the primal, animalistic qualities of humans -the way we treat each other and our terrestrial foe.
About this project
THE GOALS
- Help me fund my first drawing show/series
- To create a series of 20 drawings (ranging from 8 x 10 in. to 16 x 20 in.)
- Have the drawings be inspired by the theme: bringing visual poetry to the crudeness, silliness, explicitness, and primal nature of homo sapiens.
THEME
Flinging poop, frolicking nude, urinating in creeks, copulating, setting fire to trees... the theme for this series of drawings will show the human figure in harmony or in conflict with nature. The narratives will have a voyeuristic point of view, displaying figures in intimate or candid moments, or at play, or in overly staged displays. The human figures will be drawn as mischievous, privileged, playful, intrinsic woes of the planet, all while showcasing their charm and anatomical beauty.
MEDIUM/PROCESS
Ink on Paper.
Ink and paper was chosen to make this project's process as simple and cost effective as possible -to have the Backer's contributions go as far as possible towards the project goals, stretch goals and rewards. The drawings will be fine line drawings (with possibly washes) using black (or sepia) ink on white (or off-white) paper. All materials to create the drawings will be archival, artist grade materials. As an LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender, and/or Queer) artist, many of the drawings may include LGBTQ themes.
THE ARTIST
I have been working as a professional artist since 2007. My artwork has been exhibited in numerous cities, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, NYC, including three solo exhibitions in San Francisco. During my career, my oil paintings have garnered most of the attention. Drawings were mostly reserved as personal pieces; I have not yet composed a series of drawings to present publicly... until now. With your help, I hope to fund the creation of a series of drawings, with one of the stretch goals being to frame and solicit the series to exhibition spaces.
STRETCH GOALS
- $750 -have 10 selected works framed to help solicit to galleries and to cover some framing costs for an exhibition
- $1000 -have all 20 drawings of the series framed to help with framing costs for soliciting exhibition space
- $1500 -create 10 additional pieces for the series, making it a total of 30 drawings for the series!
Risks and challenges
It is hard to see any challenges that may occur with this project at this point, as I have chosen materials that would lend itself towards a strict time schedule, and that can be done anywhere, in or out of the studio.
I will be certain to communicate any hick-ups or issues that arise, so everyone can be assured the project comes to completion and the rewards are distributed respectfully.

Yes, Backers who will receive the PDF images as a reward will be able to choose from a selection of drawings from the series the artist has chosen. Backers will not be able to choose any drawing from the series because the artist will make sure only drawings that will reproduce well when printed from a PDF file will be an option. The PDF's will be at 300 DPI, perfect for printing.

Because poop happens. Heh. But in all seriousness (somewhat), when thinking about what the drawing series would be of, I wanted to make sure I would choose something that would help me grow as an artist. Over the past 9 years I have been creating work with a strong nod to (conservative in many ways) classical art. This time around, while I hope to include some of the innocence and maturity in my past work, I also want to have the liberty to tackle subject matter that breaks through the stuffiness sometimes associated with fine art. I think sh!t is something everyone can relate to, literally. Or we have all had one of those sh!tty days.
