Can I suggest that you separate action from orientation? For example, a straight man who never has sex is still straight. Likewise for a gay man. A gay man who has slept with a woman before isn't (necessarily) therefore straight.

I agree that people are rational and capable of choosing what they do. For that reason, gay people stay in the closet for so long. It's rational.
