Honestly man, start a new hobby! I got laid off from work and the job market in my city has been terrible. Now that I got all this free time, I've decided to start learning things that I've always wanted to learn but never had the time. So far, its been great man. Takes my mind off of things and I live a bit more in the moment. Hope this helps and let me know it you want some suggestions!

Let me just echo /u/Burfobino when he suggests the Headspace app.

I've been practising meditation on and off for a while now and honestly its amazing what positive effects it'll have. While I do enjoy reading about the spiritual side of things I don't really believe in any of that with any conviction, so my approach is purely as a way to calm my thoughts and prepare me for the day - and the difference to my mood and effectiveness in work is definitely noticable when I forget to do my 10mins in the morning.

I listen to Tim Ferriss' podcast a lot, where he interviews high level performers in many different walks of life (athletes, investors, actors, entrepreneurs etc) and one of the main things that a huge deal of these people have in common is that they have some sort of meditative process. http://fourhourworkweek.com/2015/11/29/magic-of-mindfulness/

sepehrack makes a great point below. And one i can suggest is modern board games. before you laugh or anything. honestly they have come a long way since monopoly or risk and they still have a huge stigma attached to them of the geek/nerd world. but if you dip your toe into the water and pull out a few of the modern day greats then you'll find this whole world opening up.

The benefits i found are that it totally focuses my mind. i get home after work and my mind is all over the shop, thinking through everything and i often find myself lying awake in bed thinking every single detail through. Now however, i play through a game solo or with my wife, it winds us down after a hard day, frees the mind up with thinking through some more fun "problems" and trying to solve the game. After that i don't even remember my day, it's just relaxation.

I've joined several clubs after work now, all like minded people, all "normal" run of the mill people that you just never would have thought would be into a hobby like this. But we all just want to wind down after a hard day at work and get our minds off things.

For many people meditation works. I've never tried it myself but is definitely worth a go. With regards to overthinking all aspects of your life; try and set a few achievable goals for the next 7 days. Set these goals knowing that if you achieve them then in 7 days, you'll be in a better place than you are now. For the next week, focus on these and leave everything else to one side. Writing it down means you look at your success at the end and it feels pretty good. Hope it helps.

Don't remember having such an up and down week in my life.

Friday my country decided it's better off out of the EU. Saturday I moved in to my new apartment. Monday morning I watched the most EPIC game of thrones finale. Monday evening England are dumped out of the Euros. Wednesday I lost my wallet with 45 euros in it. Thursday is ZLATAN day and Thursday evening I manage to get an almost new LG G5 for 350 euros.

Oh and AMG also released the new GTR. Some of the images I worked on for it are all over the AMG website.

Just started my new job working for the NHS. The pay isn't anything significant but it's nice to be earning again. Only went to Old Trafford once last season (Sheffield United, what a bore) and am looking forward to going to the big European nights this year now I can afford to spend more freely. I passed up on going to see our home leg against Midjetland (or whatever they're called) last season, never regretted something so much... Certainly won't be doing that again, and how could I pass up on seeing Zlatan in a United shirt in person? I don't even particularly like the man.

Game Of Thrones season 5 & 6 SPOILERS down below

First I need to say that I've read the books so I guess that makes me "that kind of guy" who complains a lot about the show.

I hated the idea of Sansa being sent to marry Ramsay (never happens in the books) and thought it didn't make any sense that a very well-informed man like Littlefinger wouldn't know about Ramsay's... difficult personality, shall we say. Seeing her being raped was fucking painful to watch. I grew a bit tired of Iwan Rheon's machiavelic acting as well. Also the Winterfell storyline had none of the "Northern Conspiracy" vibe there is in the novels and it was a huge disappointment. To me the show felt like it went from a story where the hero doesn't necessarily always win to a story where the villain always gets his way, which is definitly not the same thing and lacks subtlety.

Jaime to Dorne was a total disaster (also doesn't happen in the books) and it produced some of the worst scenes and dialogues in the whole series. The Sand Snakes were absolutly awful and I guess the writers somehow admitted their mistakes by having them only in two episodes this year (still their first appearance was a fucking disgrace).

In general, the way they handled Jaime's arc is immensely disappointing to me. He's one of my favourite characters in the books and the way he's handled in the show is kind of insulting in a way (as was Stannis) but I guess now he's finally done being Cersei's puppy. Hopefully.

In the whole, I felt like the writing was a bit off-the-rail, a lot of stuff felt like it was only done for shock value but, somehow, still, nothing much happened.

One fantastic episode (8) couldn't make for a whole season of clusterfuck.

Two whole month of rain. I'm so fucking tired of it. Anybody got any advice for a very shy guy wanting to speak up more? Whenever I'm in a room filled with people I clam up and find it very hard to speak and basically forget what I am trying to say.. It feels the exact same as oral exam anxiety. Is there any tricks to help me overcome this?

If I could offer any advice it would be to join the gym. It won't happen overnight but 2 months solid in the gym, following the right diet and getting a lot of rest my confidence grew a lot because I saw changes in my appearance. Focus on improving you e.g Good haircut, go to the gym, dress better and you'll start to feel more confident, I know that sounds really fake but it will help.

Someone also told me and I've never tried it but I should. Talk to someone new that you don't know every day. For example on the bus/train start a small conversation asking them how there day was or something small and build up from there. Hope any this helped and good luck.

One way of starting a conversation could be making a query depending on the situation. Its answer should not be so obvious that you look stupid though.If the other person replies nicely you can thank him and build on that to further the conversation.

Definitely good advice. Another thing to keep in mind is that other people are open minded to you talking to them. If you're in a social setting, they want you to, so everybody is going to have a better time if you do! If a very rare occurrence happens where the other person is unreceptive to you, then it's the simple case that that individual is just an asshole. Improv or acting classes would help a bunch. Taking up a hobby and joining people who have a shared interest will help you feel more comfortable to speak up. Exercise will also make you feel a lot more confident. Learn to make small talk with strangers; ask for the time at the bus stop, ask the cashier if she's having a good day. Small steps like this help. I suffer from social anxiety and honestly it's fucking terrible and I feel the exact same way, but those things have definitely helped me.

I've read up on a lot of advice on how to be better in social environments, but it's all pointless because like you I freeze up in the moment. That's why trying to improve yourself and going outside your comfort zone are the main things that will help. Good luck!

The thing is, I have loads of hobbies. United, football, gym workout, gaming etc, the problem is that even when I'm talking to my best friend or my "in-laws" I freeze. I know small talk is the right move, I just don't know how lol. Hopefully it will get better over time. Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it :)

ask questions. Ask people what they are into, what they have been upto. That will kick start the conversation and once you're going then you'll find it easier to keep the momentum. If you find it start to dip again then ask another question. Over time you'll learn that people basically love talking about themselves anyway, lol. But it will deffo help you to get going.

Might be a bit strange but I found this Ted Talk to be very interesting and helpful. I started doing it a few months ago basically every morning coming out of the shower and felt immediate changes in my mood. Try it, it really doesn't require much effort and it made me feel great.

I'm struggling with loneliness. My friends have left University and they haven't initiated contact with me for two weeks. I chatted to them a few times because I started the conversation, but they seem disinterested. I can't help but feel I've annoyed them in some way, and I feel we are drifting further and and further apart. I've stopped initiating conversations myself because I don't want to come off as needy. So I've been sitting here for a week waiting for a message or a call, but nothing ever comes.

Does anyone stream the euros on a MacBook/Mac in general? I've been using sopcast but lately, the feed becomes unwatchable with crazy lags and breaks in the game to a point I need to use an online stream that's just a bit better.

Tried to use ace stream but it's not so simple to use for a Mac. Managed to get it to work on Kodi with the P2p sport/plexus thing but it has ace stream engine problems and the feed cuts off entirely.

Any tips? Thanks.

I stream it (not on mac but it does work on mac) - but I pay yearly for the stream service..(its really good though! All games, 3pm kick offs all HD all in english!)

Was on a 12 hour shift yesterday because Beyoncé was playing across the road from my bar. Gets to half an hour before I finish and my boss says I have to stay on for another three hours! I have never been so tired.

Through happy hour we made over what we'd make on a normal Friday night and set a company record. It was nuts.
