Daley Blind has sent a timely message to Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho amid speculation he could be sold in the summer.

Shortly after Mourinho's appointment was confirmed, Blind was heavily linked with a move away from United, having been the only player to publicly criticise the sacking of Louis van Gaal.

Blind started all but three United games last season in central defence, however Eric Bailly's arrival and United's interest in signing another defender will intensify competition.

Netherlands defender Blind will report for pre-season training at Carrington next week and the 26-year-old insists he is 'ready' for the upcoming campaign.

Blind wrote on Instagram: "Great day on the boat yesterday, enjoying the last couple of days. My mind is rested and ready for next season."

Blind described Van Gaal's sacking as 'not the way it should go' and said the former Netherlands coach 'did not deserve' his treatment at United.

Bought by Van Gaal from Ajax for £13.8million, Blind stressed he was determined to stay at United in an interview on international duty early this month.

"I am looking forward to working with Mourinho," he said. "We will have to wait and see whether anything changes for me.

"I will just give my all and work hard. Mourinho is a manager who has achieved a lot and I am keen to work with him.

"I’ve met Jose several times but don’t know him personally. For example, I played for Ajax against Real Madrid when he was the coach of Madrid, so I saw him then.

"I think he's a coach who's achieved a lot and I’m very excited to work with someone like him. I'm going do my best and work very hard.
