What about using the reposts for building the wall?

Why the EU is just a wanna be USA basically political repost

The circle is too painful. My gf saw this on Facebook and I was like it was on Reddit and then this gets posted on Reddit and gets upvoted to the top.

He certainly didn't see it in Germany because it's from Jonestown Coffee in Bethnal Green, London.

Sadly I recognised the orange signage in the bottom left of the picture.

Probably the start one also originated in the pool of memes of the first Brexit thread.

Whoever birthed the joke probably has never even been on Reddit, and his dirty reposting friend stole it from conversation and brought it to us content gluttons for the sweet sweet karma.

If only the joke would show us its long form birth certificate we could put this controversy to bed for good.

It's rich coming from Germany. Despite Reddit's romanticizing Germany and the EU as some sort of multicultural utopias, when Germans themselves are asked anonymously, 79% of Germans said that Germany's economy will get worse, 70% said Europe will drift farther apart, only 21% think Germany will get more prosperous and 55% said their fear for the future. The EU is literally falling apart and while the British stock market has quickly recovered to pre-Brexit levels and then FTSE today again skyrocketed to a 10 month high, the German DAX is still down. EU is undemocratic, lead by unelected officials, at best economically stagnant and more frequently failing, lead by a monetary policy that is destined for its current failure and not set up well for the future. Just look at the massive unemployment in Spain and Italy, the 25% youth unemployment in France. Even now EU parliament heads are saying the EU will fall apart in a decade. It's need of such a radical change that Germany's finance ministry says that five more countries could leave soon

And while the British were freely able to express their opinion on EU's policies and reject them, in Germany Merkel met with Facebook to censor anti-migrant posts on Facebook as "hate speech". They now even literally raid your house if you post views against mass migration views on Facebook. (edit: linked to original German source for the SRS poster below trying to derail the conversation into nitpicking Breibart language)

As the New York Times reports, the neverending stream of third world migrants are not integrating and placing a massive strain on the welfare system. The rape has gotten so bad that Germany had to create a sex manual for them, telling them that raping German women is wrong after the Cologne rape gangs. From Paris to Cologne to Brussels, the multicultural Eutopia project is failing.

Despite all the censorship and PC thought crime control in Germany, when asked anonymously most Germans agree that the Islam is not compatible with Western European values. Every poll in Germany shows support for the current political establishment plummeting, and Merkel is seeing a huge backlash among Germans. She was punished by German voters strongly in regional elections.

As 3.6 million migrants are expected in Germany by 2020 from cultures completely incompatible with European beliefs, the old "everyone who disagrees with cultural relativism is a Nazi" narrative that dominates the German left wing will no longer be enough to keep the status quo as voters force the EU neoliberal elitists to chokes on a politically incorrect truth too big to swallow.

The British didn't fuck up their country. Far from it, the so called "stupid old people" who voted for leaving remember a time before the EU, unlike the whining virtue signalling millennials on Reddit and Twitter. They saw a bloated, undemocratic sinking ship letting in millions of people with completely backward values in, and then got in a lifeboat and left.

The Breitbart article is based on a report by a German newspaper. As usual, Breitbart leaves some facts out and adds a bunch of lies. Here are a few examples:

there was no evidence of any planned conspiracy to commit crime among them

Not part of the original article at all, Breitbart seems to know more than local newspapers. Interesting.

Redlich justified the raids saying they were maybe, “people who just once expressed their hate-opinion.”

Redlich never used the word 'once'.

One of the raids in particular was prompted by a Facebook comment to an article regarding an Afghani migrant who was shot dead at the Bulgarian border.

They forget to mention (I wonder why) that the arrested man actually called for all immigrants/refugees to be shot. He also made some antisemitic comments which included him telling other people to go to Auschwitz...not as tourists, obviously. Meanwhile Breitbart doesn't mention the guy's antisemitic comments at all and claims that one single comment made the Berlin Police raid this guy's place. Great journalism!

The post responded to the article saying that it was unfortunate too few migrants met with a similar fate, as it might scare the rest of them from coming.

Bold part not in the original article.

I also love how they call this guy's call for mass murder 'meeting with a similar fate'. Sounds rather innocent, right? The whole 'they killed a guy but it was totally an accident'-thing (not part of the original article, btw) reinforces this impression quite well...but hey, they just provide background information, right?

Police announced that the raids show Germans that they are not as safe online as they might think. They say that anyone who says something xenophobic, spreads hate toward migrants, or shares what they consider to be xenophobic music, may be next on the list of apartments to be raided in the future.

Total bullshit! Not part of the original article at all, spokesperson Redlich simply said that the internet is not an extralegal place. But hey, great job at making the German authorities come across as menacing facists. Great journalism, very ethical!

The rest of the Breitbart article is based on other Breitbart articles which are probably full of lies, too.

Hello SRS, should have known you'd immediately jump on the one Breibart article to nitpick the source. Changed it for you, now it's linked to the original German article in German. Doesn't change anything in my post one bit.

Excellent summary of this message which is just Tumblr garbage bleeding over into real life. The message on the sign neglects to mention that Germany just finished strapping on their ACME Rocket Powered Skates and is now hurtling past both of us toward the finish line Wile E. Coyote Style...

[–]FantasticCellTech 53ポイント54ポイント  (36子コメント)

Funny that someone in Germany would write this.

Get back to us in approximately 7 - 10 years, German friends. We'll see who made the mistakes.

Lol...can anyone even come close to fucking up as bad as "the Holocaust"? I'd say they already have us beat by a long shot and should probably just sit there silent and take it.

[–]BuckeyeBentley -1ポイント0ポイント  (3子コメント)

Fair, but nearly everyone who was responsible for that has been dead for a long time. Germany is finding new and interesting ways of fucking up based on guilt from their actions in the first half of the 20th century. We'll see how things go from here. Hopefully they can correct course without snapping to the kind of right wing conservatism we know they're capable of.

[–]BigBadButterCat 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

Germany is finding new and interesting ways of fucking up based on guilt from their actions in the first half of the 20th century.

Based on our constitution actually, not guilt. Even though reddit seems obsessed with the idea, we don't actually feel guilty for the Holocaust, you know...

But it fits the whole "white guilt", "white genocide" narrative, and that's why it's being spread so heavily. Also, German guilt made our country into what it is today. To paraphrase our president: there's never been a better Germany than the current one, ever.

[–]FireIsMyPorn 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

In America we have to feel guilty for slavery AND the killing of native Americans.

If I those are still being used to guilt trip people in America it's only fair that Germany joins the party. I don't want to be alone

[–]magic3383 2ポイント3ポイント  (11子コメント)

Islam isn't a race. What's the connection?

[–]Liberalt -4ポイント-3ポイント  (10子コメント)

Neither are the Irish, but I don't see a lot of people denying Irish racism in the 19th and 20th century. Whatever you call it, the mechanisms behind racism against Muslims are the exact same as the ones behind racism against Jews, black people or any other group that's been subject to racism.

[–]BeautifulCreampie 0ポイント1ポイント  (5子コメント)

Islam is an ideology. If you want to talk about bigotry based on race/ethnicity, you would talk about Arabs, Kurds, Persians, Turks, Azerbaijanis, or any other ethnic group of the region. Since Islam is an ideology, you can find it to be a hateful one without referencing any specific race. As I'm sure you know, there are people who subscribe to Islam from all races.

Since Islam contains a set of ideas, it is not at all nonsensical to find many of those ideas repulsive. Blacks were discriminated against under the idea that they were lesser beings than whites. Anti-Semitism has a long history which is not really tied that specifically to Jewish principles past a certain extent.

I mean, look at it this way. The majority of the neo-Conservatives you probably loathe are white men. When you speak out against their values and their actions as a group, are you really going after white men?

[–]LeftZer0 -1ポイント0ポイント  (4子コメント)

Islam is a religion. There are ideologies that are Islamic, but those aren't Islam.
The ethnicities of arabs and persians are normally linked to Islam and suffer racism. "OH BUT I'M AGAINST THE RELIGION", yeah, you're still an asshole and still those people suffer from discrimination based on their looks - even if they're not Muslims.
And to end it all, NOT ALL MUSLIMS THINK LIKE YOU THINK THEY THINK. Just like there are crazy Christians and secular Christians, there are crazy Muslims and secular Muslims. "B-BUT THEIR BOOK TELL THEM TO KILL PEOPLE", have you ever read the fucking Bible? Hating on all Muslims or on Islam is as sane as hating on all Christians because of the Crusades.

[–]not_stoned [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Please, as an exmuslim, I'm asking you to shut up. What is up with this fetish for Islam you have westerners have? Seriously WTF?

[–]BeautifulCreampie 0ポイント1ポイント  (2子コメント)

Islam is a religion. There are ideologies that are Islamic, but those aren't Islam.

Islam is a religion with a set of principles. No matter what sect of Islam you follow, some of those principles are still preached and largely followed.

The ethnicities of arabs and persians are normally linked to Islam and suffer racism.

Which I do not condone. Nobody should.

"OH BUT I'M AGAINST THE RELIGION", yeah, you're still an asshole and still those people suffer from discrimination based on their looks - even if they're not Muslims.

You're calling me an asshole when you don't even have the courtesy to not strawman me into the ground and call me a racist?

And to end it all, NOT ALL MUSLIMS THINK LIKE YOU THINK THEY THINK.

You're unbelievably smug so it's no surprise you turn people off to your political views. People like you are the reason why Brexit succeeded. You think that any disapproval of any specific worldview absolutely must be borne out of intolerance.

"B-BUT THEIR BOOK TELL THEM TO KILL PEOPLE", have you ever read the fucking Bible?

Are you having a conversation with yourself or with me? Look at yourself for a second and look at what you're doing. You decided my entire set of opinions completely without even asking. It's that same smugness that I talked about earlier.

Get a grip and reapproach the topic like an adult. Then maybe we can have a reasonable discussion.

[–]LeftZer0 -2ポイント-1ポイント  (1子コメント)

I refuse to have a reasonable discussion with you because that would mean I respect your oppinion. Your oppinion deserves no respect.
No religion has an actual set of principles outside of calling itself that religion. Religions are culture, they're mutable, they change with time, they adapt to the environment. Christians don't kill those who work at Saturdays today, even though that was a core tenet in the early days, so strong it made its way into the Bible.
None of the set of principles is fixed. They can, AND WILL, change with time.
Hating on any religion, which is always one of the core parts of some group's cultural identity, makes you an asshole.

Just for the record, I'm an atheist and somewhat anti-religion. But still I understand religion is important for many and that disrespecting a religion in any way will always create more resistance than solve any problem. As long as no one is being hurt - as long as people can leave a religion and religious people don't bother those outside of it - the true solution is to educate and expose them to a modern liberal culture and let religions change with time.

[–]BeautifulCreampie 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I refuse to have a reasonable discussion with you because that would mean I respect your oppinion. Your oppinion deserves no respect.

Then why even bother responding? Why keep explaining yourself? Oh, that's right. You're full of shit and now you're trying to play it off as if you actually know something.

Here's the thing, kiddo: you're not impressing anyone. You've stumbled through this discussion like a lost toddler, trying to wing it at every step. Now you're talking about how religions don't have fixed sets of principles, which is so demonstrably wrong that it's laughable. You try to deflect further by talking about how religions change, but that's completely irrelevant to the discussion. We're talking about the current state of Islam; we're not discussing where it might go. And the current form of Islam simply does not mesh well with Western liberal ideas. If you want to try to sell that it does, be my guest, but you'd need to make magic happen to construct a coherent argument for that. To be honest we both know you're not capable of it.

Just for the record, I'm an atheist and somewhat anti-religion. But still I understand religion is important for many and that disrespecting a religion in any way will always create more resistance than solve any problem.

Your lack of self awareness is legendary. You were just criticizing Christianity in your last post. You constantly say disrespectful things about people you're responding to. You prefaced your entire post by saying my opinion deserves no respect. And now you're giving lessons about civility and reaching people?

You're an idiot.

[–]blackeyefairy -1ポイント0ポイント  (3子コメント)

Ireland is a country, Irish is a nationality. Islam is a religion. Literally not even comparable.

[–]Liberalt -2ポイント-1ポイント  (2子コメント)

They're both groups you can move in and out of.

Anyways. I've had this discussion with people like you before. Just because Muslims can't be the target of whatever definition of racism you're using doesn't make anti-Muslim sentiment any more acceptable. You can call hatred of and scaremongering about Muslims whatever you want, it's still ass-backwards and despicable behaviour. And, as I said before, no different than anti-sentiments and prejudice towards black people, Irish, Jews and what have you.

And finally, let's not kid ourselves. We all know what ethnic group we're talking about when people think of Muslims. It's not the blonde, blue eyed Nordic convert.

[–]jms9810 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

You can't stop being Irish. Nationality/ethnicity aren't a choice. You're stuck with what you're born as and no one should be judged for that.

[–]blackeyefairy 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

You literally can't just move into or out of being Irish. You're either Irish or you're not. Sorry. when I moved to the Netherlands, I didn't just become Dutch. You are born your nationality. Period.

I love that, "people like you" comment after clarifying that a nationality and a religion are not comparable. Jeeze... fascist much? Maybe you should examine your own internalized racism if you honestly can't imagine criticism of Islam divorced from race. Because I can assure you the sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and violence encouraged in Islam is what people disagree with, not the race of its followers- i.e. middle easterners, who are nearly indistinguishable from various European nationalities.

[–]ignore_any_politics 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)
