You have to be aggressive tbh, especially since I understand that you're quite young and therefore at a disadvantage due to lack of experience. If you haven't been doing so already, show up to places to inquire/apply/check in (even if a place hasn't publicly announced that they're hiring, it never hurts to ask), or call if the former isn't feasible (email is too easy, making a call takes balls). It's not easy, but stay thirsty, try your hardest to force doors open for yourself, and someone will eventually take notice and appreciate your initiative. Good luck!

I was a huge Laker fan from 2001 to 2006 (I gave up after they had back-to-back shitty seasons lmao, but in my defense I was 12). Since then I haven't been keeping up with news related to them much, so through your post I learned that Luke Walton is now head coach and I feel like my life is flashing before my eyes.

I can't say for sure, but I think I bought Baby One More Time with my own money in ~2001. I was the typical Britney-obsessed little girl and we had Oops! I Did It Again at home, so when I found BOMT on sale at a music store (RIP), I had to have it. I was a straight up miser as a kid (I remember counting up my savings at ~9 years old and it amounted to like, $850 lmao AND this was all based on my own good saving habits/no parental oversight to keep me responsible) and I remember my dad and sister asking, "Are you SURE you want it?", so that makes me think that I probably bought the album with my own money.

Another fun memory was my sister and I pitching in to buy Ashlee Simpson's debut. By that time Limewire was a thing and we no longer bought physical copies of albums, but we were like "We have to support this queen!!!!!" lmao

I do like "Glad You Came", though!

That was way harsh, Tai.

But I agree even though I haven't 100% accepted it 'cause Lorde is awesome and I want her to do well. :(

The man is undoubtedly a genius

Can you elaborate on why you think this way? I honestly don't know all that much about Kanye but I notice the "genius" label attached to him all the time and I'm like "really? seems a bit much, but werk" Help me see the light!

Raja's comment about Raven being asked to be the first drag queen astronaut gave me the biggest laugh I've had in a while tbh. I picture it happening literally, so something like this except with Raven's face contoured for the gods and visible through the helmet and I don't know why I find it so funny lmao

I'm lowkey living for the green screen realness in this video lmao. I've come to realize that a RuPaul music video is never gonna give you polish or high production value, that's not what she's about. This is so campy and fun and stupid and gauche, there are hot men in sombreros, the song is enjoyable trash... 10/10 tbh

This is a great example. I was on a Britney kick a few months ago and started to marathon a bunch of her music videos, especially since she has a lot of good ones with awesome choreo. I hadn't seen "Gimme More" before, and was HYPED because it's one of my favorite songs of hers, as well. About one minute into the video I'm like "oh is that it okay" and then I couldn't bring myself to finish the rest lmao. It was so naive of me to have had high expectations to begin with haha, she really was such a mess at the time.

At least her butt looks nice!

Max was the first person to come to mind for me too, as the most egregious example of failing to strike while the iron was hot. I think there's still hope for her, though. Her fan base seems to be very loyal and supportive.

However (and this is just speculation on my part), I do question whether a career in drag is right for her tbh. I think her visual sensibilities are actually impressive and far exceed her performance chops, and I don't know if she'll ever get anywhere with her sanitized, sorta Disney approach to drag when the culture is so fundamentally gritty. The teenager-on-Tumblr demographic might be into that gig, but they're not the people who show up to performances and as such aren't a reliable source of income.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Max and wish her the best, but sometimes I wonder if she'd be be better-suited for and happier doing like, art direction behind the scenes or something.

I love me some Miss Balenciaga AKA Paris AKA Successful, but I don't know if I agree with this tbh. Even though we love her around here, I can't picture her being among the Rugirls in the highest tier of popularity/success because she doesn't resonate as much with more casual viewers. She's kinda old school and has something of a subtlety to her (fabulous) personality...like, Mariah's the kind who isn't particularly memorable the first time around, but keeps getting better and better on repeated viewings until you fall in love and realize that she's an absolute gem.

There's a lot of complaining going on in this thread (I don't blame y'all wanting to vent tho), so I'll focus on some positives:

"(X) done fucked up drag" is probably my absolute favorite and I can't picture it ever getting old. Jasmine is too fucking funny lmao

I'm also unironically fond of the word "henny" tbh. "hemmy" is awful tho

The key to these things is moderation tbh. Lines like, "for 8 years Patricia wore that lipstick" (and various other Shannel-isms), "I don't eat fried food" and other Mystique-isms, and "Mimi Imfurst was number third in the voting, I could not believe it!" don't come up all that often, so it's cute when they do.
