What a beautiful sentiment. Too bad it's used to erase the experiences of minorities of all types from the wider conversation.

That doesn't sound like an answer to my question. Do you feel it would be safe for two guys to make out in the middle of a straight bar?

Don't be patronizing. I know what we're talking about. The issue with most of the mathematic models that are used to help describe our political landscape is that here is a limited data set, and that natural phenomenon aren't easily described. I mean, we're talking about human behavior in a way that's only seen every 8 years, with a different electorate and candidates each time.

Now, the math itself likely describes a couple of elections quite accurately. But this doesn't inherently indicate the type of relationship that people are claiming. Additionally, there are likely several elections that simply defy this relationship, as well as this mathematical description.

Essentially, your making an argument based on evidence with questionable applicability.

That means that Clinton wasn't able to claim those votes. They aren't owed to her, and they likely wouldn't have voted if they didn't register a protest vote regardless. The only people responsible for Clinton's campaign and its efficiency is the Clinton campaign.

Obviously I have. What I've never heard is a solid argument as to why we should blame his campaign for Gore's loss in '00 rather than a host of other factors such as an uninspired campaign on Gore's part, years of Clinton scandals souring the public on Democrats, an electoral system that really wasn't built to honor voters, jiggery-pokery ballet issues, and a Supreme Court decision that willfully ignored the will of the voters.

You only said that it doesn't cancel out one of his votes. That's not a real explanation. We can even use hypothetical numbers if you'd like.

If Hillary Clinton gets 54 percent of the vote in Washington state, Donald Trump gets 44 percent, and Jill Stein gets 2 percent of the vote ... Who gets the delegates for the state? Well, Washington state is winner take all (as far as I know). So all 12 general election delegates would be awarded to Clinton.

So please explain to me what math you are using to suggest that a vote for Jill Stein hurts Clinton or helps Trump. Especially considering that 2 percent of the vote would be very generous for Stein, even in Washington.

Well, since both you and u/Netzapper brought it up, why don't we broaden the conversation to our personal characters that are queer.

How did that come up in gameplay?

How did your group respond?

Did the queer themes extend beyond the personal relationship of the character to have wider implications?

Just saying "splitting the vote" doesn't explain it. So actually take the time to outline exactly what you're saying happens when a left-leaning individual doesn't vote Democrat.

I will admit, so far it seems as if you just want to throw out words but don't have an understanding of the issue that you are suggesting exists.

And what evidence do you have that that disproportionately benefits Trump?

See, you can keep saying "math" as an explanation but I'm a little concerned that you can't break it down and show your work.

Well, I was recently playing the Troika TOEE D&D video game and they have Bertram the Gay Pirate. And even though it was kind of a weird LGBT character, I thought it was nice to run into one.

Or, for example, the Blue Rose setting published (and being re-released soon) by Green Ronin. The in-setting cultures all have their own views on their fictional LGBT populations. In my opinion, this inclusion is important and lends verisimilitude to the setting.

So I guess I'm looking for a mix of all of the above. LGBT setting characters, queer themes in the setting or campaigns, or even LGBT game designers and writers that I might support.

[–]trevor5ever 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

If you want to get to know him, ask him questions about the class (content or assignments).

If you want to know if he's gay, tell him he looks familiar and then ask if he uses Grindr. If he's straight, he probably won't know what it is. If he asks, just say it's one of those stupid social apps and leave it at that.

If he's gay, you can find out if he's into you by asking. Or you could get to know him and let a friendship or romantic relationship develop.

I'm not all that familiar with your particular situation but I'd like to share my most recent experience as a gay man at a gay bar. I'll let you decide whether or not it means anything for you ...

I live in a rural community. Where I live, there are two bars that I might go to ... It would not be safe for two guys to openly flirt or dance with each other, so it's not really a space that I can be comfortable in.

Roughly 45 minutes away there is a gay bar in a small college town. It's great for a chill night with friends and is pretty decent during the semester when students are in town. I went a couple of weeks ago after the Pulse shooting for a vigil. It was a pretty small crowd. I could go there to be myself, but when school isn't in session there's not much happening there.

Last weekend I decided to drive an hour and a half or so away to go to the nearest urban gay club. I drove through a nearby micropolitan area with four or five straight clubs. When I got there I was excited about the prospect of having a night out and meeting other gay people, so I paid the cover and went in. The Saturday drag show was going on, which was fun. The drag queen really did a good job of engaging three bachelorettes who were celebrating hen nights with their respective bridal parties. I watched the show, enjoyed a couple of drinks, and then decided to head to the dance floor. At first it was pretty decent and people were just having fun but then the drag show must have ended and the bachelorette parties headed up to the dance floor. Their boyfriends joined them, and some creepers followed them up to try to hit up some of the bridesmaids who were drinking heavily. Not many gays on the dance floor at that point. It wasn't horrible, but not what I was looking for. I could have stayed in my hometown if I wanted to watch straight couples dance.

At one point a guy comes up to me and asks for a sip of the drink that I had just bought. I figure he is flirting with me, so I offer him a sip. He finishes it off. He asks me if I'd like another, and thinking that he'll pay for it and we'll share (because he finished my 3/4 full drink off) I say yes. He doesn't move and asks me again. At this point I realize that he's not interested in buying us a drink. He's interested in being bought a drink. So I say that I'm fine for now and want to dance. I then start to dance with him and he backs away a little. I think it's an issue with where we're standing, so I move into the dance floor a little more. He doesn't follow. I later see him making out with one of the bridesmaids. I ask one of the other girls on the sly, and that's his girlfriend. OK. Whatever. I'll survive, I mean, it's not the worst thing that could have happened.

So I hit the dance floor again, and a young drag queen (not even able to drink) comes up and asks to dance with me. I say sure and we dance a bit. We text afterwards and he complains that I was the only guy even interested in dancing with him. He drove from roughly an hour away hoping to meet gay friends and most of the guys weren't even interested. Most of the people weren't even gay. I had to reassure him that it wasn't him, that it was just one night, and that the club that promises "a new era in gay nightlife" isn't the end-all be-all of our community. I shouldn't have to help this kid process this, but I don't mind. He needs a little bit of friendly advice from within the community.

At the end of the night, I didn't have a horrible experience. It just wasn't what I was looking for. As I was driving home afterward the only thing I could think of was how sad it is that the gay space I drove an hour and a half to, and paid to get into, wasn't really all that gay. At least not in terms of the clientele. Overall though, I would say that the experience was pretty gay. I mean ... the acts were gay ... the dancers and servers were gay ... and the experience of driving an hour and a half away, past several bars and clubs you'll never fit in at, just to be disappointed must be gay ... none of my straight friends have to do it.

When straight people get too comfortable in gay spaces, it just reminds us of how outside of the norm we truly are. Like I said, I won't try to tell you what to do. I don't know the situation. I don't know you. But I do know that I don't have anywhere to go.

Gay men are different though, and I wish that some LGBT folks would stop making it about being treated as if we are the same. We fundamentally experience life differently and we should be proud and celebrate that.

We've always been able to go to straight bars, and straight people have always been able to go to gay bars. Our forebears didn't fight for that. They fought so that our bars wouldn't be burnt to the ground. So that we could have a space to feel comfortable in.

The narrative and the ethical rules were not originally intended to be independent of each other. It's only a contemporary view of Christianity (and to a lesser extent Judaism) that enables us to make claims, and that's largely due to an increased interest in promoting secular values as a means of adapting the religion for more general populations.
