The entire Super Rugby 2016 season will consists of 135 matches. The teams have been combined into two differing regional groups, and then a total of four different conferences. The Australasian group is composed of the Blues, Brumbies, Chiefs, Crusaders, Force, Highlanders, Hurricanes, Rebels, Reds, and Waratahs. The South African group is comprised of the Bulls, Cheetahs, Jaguares, Kings, Lions, Sharks, Stormers, and Sunwolves. These two regional groups are broken down even further to compose the Australian, New Zealand, Africa 1, and Africa 2 Conferences.
Each team from the Super Rugby 2016 season will play 15 regular season matches, as well as two byes, creating a seventeen week season composed of 135 regular season matches altogether, along with seven finals matches.
Advancing to the Quarterfinals will be the top teams from each of the four different conferences, as well as 4 additional teams, which will be selected as wildcards.
