Shutdown CornerDear Amy: Nine months ago our daughter, a sophomore in college, told us she had a girlfriend and thought she was bisexual. It didn’t go over well, and I called one of my siblings (there are six of us) to ask for help and support. I asked my daughter if she wanted me to tell family members. She was emphatic that this was a private journey for her. My sister asked me if she could tell our other siblings. I repeated what my daughter said. I also stated that my husband and I would rather not make any of this public until we all felt we were ready to do so. Three days later, that sister visited two other sisters and told them my daughter was gay. A short while later one of those sisters told another

For most of its 45 years, Southwest Airlines Co. has operated with a kludgy hodgepodge of technology systems, mainly built in-house. It was generally a cheaper approach that better fit the needs of its network, radically different from those of hub-and-spoke airlines. Now, Southwest is racing to catch up technologically. The centerpiece of this three-year, $250 million effort is a new reservations system that Southwest will begin implementing this year, beginning with ticket sales. Operations will move to the platform in the first half of 2017, followed by additional enhancements later that year. The passenger service system, which is being built by Amadeus IT Holding SA, will offer Southwest,
BloombergAbout 99 million years ago, a hummingbird-size bird likely fought for its life after getting stuck in a glob of tree resin, but it couldn't tear itself away and eventually died, leaving its feathers to mummify in what became a lump of amber, a new study finds. "There appear to be claw marks in the resin, which would suggest a struggle," said co-lead study researcher Ryan McKellar, a curator of invertebrate paleontology at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Canada. Another preserved wing found in the clump of amber "appears to be a severed limb that may have been torn off by a predator, or may have floated free from the rest of the corpse due to resin flows," McKellar told Live Science in an email.
LiveScience.comFormer Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was more worried about public relations than saving those caught in the 2012 terrorism attack on the diplomatic outpost in Benghazi, Libya, Judge Andrew Napolitano said Wednesday, and he wonders "who in the intelligence community would want to work for her" should she become president. "There's two dynamics here," the Fox News senior judicial analyst told the "Fox & Friends" program, while commenting on the report issued from the House Select Committee on Benghazi Tuesday. "The one that's obvious from the report is that Mrs. Clinton knew the truth and lied about it, told the truth to her daughter, told the truth to the Egyptian foreign minister, lied
NewsmaxWe’ve been conditioned to think of exercise as a key ingredient - perhaps the most important ingredient - of any weight loss effort. You know the drill: Join the gym on January 1 if you want to reach your New Year’s weight loss goal. But in truth, the evidence has been accumulating for years that exercise, while great for health, isn’t actually all that important for weight loss. To learn more about why, I read through more than 60 studies (including high-quality, systematic reviews of all the best-available research) on exercise and weight loss for a recent installment of Show Me the Evidence. Here’s a quick summary of what I learned. Exercise accounts for a small portion of daily calorie burn
