Dont know you but I'm very happy with a change of career I made.

Joined IBEW and am working as an electrician. School is two nights a week sept-april.

Time to graduate varries by jurisdiction.

But once lisenced you often work for a year or so and are laid off for a few months.

Many countries have a shortage of skilled labor and pay alot to have you come over for 6mo-yr.

Money is good. Work is fun challenging and rewarding, time off is easy to get.

No need to go to trade school to become a carpenter, roofer or construction. You can do that right now, but be warned. Pay is miserable, competition for jobs is fierce, and the work is sporadic.

Law enforcement is decent, honorable work, with good job security and good benefits, but bad pay when you start out. But the problem isn't the law so much, it's the assholes, both the ones in the back of the squad car and the ones next to you in the squad car. The profession attracts a lot of people who shouldn't be there.

The main thing is to start young, because you have to pay your dues, and you don't want to be sitting in a cruiser tagging speeders and cuffing drunks in your forties. You want to get off the beat ASAP, either by graduating to lieutenant, or becoming a detective or acting as a police liaison to a school or as a bailiff. Laterally, law enforcement at a local PD is a good entry level job to many parts of state government, like gaming boards and such.

Perhaps you should look into becoming a paramedic? If you want to be of service, and you like being on the street, driving an ambulance is important, highly skilled and highly compensated work.
