So if Rooney really gets benched like a lot of people are saying, who will be the new captain? Mata? Ibrah? Smalling?

In the incredibly unlikely situation Roo gets benched, it would be Carrick then Smalling. Much like it is now.

People are out of their minds.

Mourinho loves Rooney. He has praised him in interviews for years and he tried to sign him for Chelsea.

Rooney will be the first person on the team sheet.

Where will he play? I just cant see him being the midfield engine mourinho has in his teams.

DM? I dont think hes good enough defensively to play there.

10? Possibly but he's lost his ability to burst past a man and he never goes for the killer ball, he just clips it from one side of the pitch to another.

People keep bringing these comments up but past comments and actions from a few years ago aren't a massive deal seeing as Rooney isn't the player he once was.

Mourinho will probably make new comments raving about him and nor will these be the be all and end all considering he isn't going to come in and immediately disrupt and mess with one of the most powerful people at United. Mourinho is too smart to do that.

He'll go with him early on but he'll bench him sooner than people think if he isn't performing.
