This is assuming we only sign Mkhi and Ibra. You can assume potential or w.e but I'll just go by what I think will realistically happen.

My front 4 would look like this:

    Ibra

Martial Mkhi Lingard

This is the lineup that I think will end up being Mourinhos go to by the end of the season.

Depay - I dont see Martial starting striker next season because of Ibra and even rashford. Memphis is gonna have to not only play RW more but also has even less room for error now due to our increase in depth. I dont think he will have an amazing season - at most 15(goals + assists). So like 10 goals 5 assists is what I see him getting in all comps at best due to not playing LW.

Mata - I think we might see him at no.10 but I think he will have the same problems as before. Overall just doesnt have the workrate that Mou wants and to his credit Mata has improved at tracking back and actual defensive work, but his lack of speed, height and strength will keep him out imo ( gone in jan or even before that ).

Rooney - We may see him alot at no.10 again which im actually fine with but I think he will move to a more number 8 role with a pivot behind him.

Dont really have to say anything for Mkhi, Ibra or Martial - they will do well.

Lingard - I think Mou will be surprised as he has the defensive workrate, speed and desire that Mou likes. In terms of Lingard and his quality I think many fans have ruled him out as just a squad player, but you have to take into account this is his first season proper season. He may be 23 but not every player is at their peak by 23...look at Mkhi and RVP as examples, Lingard will only improve from the past season and even after all his chances wasted he was by far our best RW last season, I think he will continue that.

Basically I think that early on will might play with rooney or mata at no 10 with Mkhi on the right but eventually Mkhi will move more centrally as they (Rooney and Mata) failed. Thus leaving us with our next best RW - Lingard.

Nice post OP I reckon Mkhi was bought as RW as we don't really have one (Toni V basically a RB now and Lingard more a CAM even though he's been good). I'd really like to see Mkhi pushes out to the right and maybe Herrera or Memphis behind Ibra.

Although that raises the question - what's gonna happen to Rooney?

Just hope Memphis finds a position where he blossoms as he's not gonna be able to find a starting spot in front of Martial on the left.

I think rooneys only problem is wages and playing time and if he can accept that he will be selected based of form then he will continue to be an asset for us. The man bleeds passion on the field and I cant complain about him not giving his best for us. (just needs to accept a paycut if he wants to retire at united).

I had forgot about herrera and the more I think about it I think he suits Mou more than Mata in terms of the no.10 role atleast. We also have yet to see the best out of herrera on a consistent basis whether it be the management not giving him a run of games or he himself not delivering.

Think Mkhitaryan will play on the right wing in a 4-3-3. Lingard's not good for a starting spot, he does not produce the goods consistently enough for a team challenging for the title. He might improve but that's a big might. It's like Arsenal fans harping about Walcott at the start of every season.

Yop, but harping about walcott in 2010, this (as was mentioned above) was his first proseason + he is clubplayer + english, imho he will get 25+ starts next season.

There is nothing wrong in being optimistic for lingard who has only played 1 season for us. Whereas Walcott harping is obviously delusional but it is completely different as Walcott has played over 200 games for arsenal and has been playing over 10 years. they are just not the same.

The thing is I don't think he has the talent and the quality to take his game to the next level. He's hardworking and will follow the managers instructions, so I do see him as a valuable squad player and a possible Europa League starter. But I reckon we'll need more quality if we are to win the league.

Without a doubt, Rooney is gonna be the biggest problem next season, unless he agrees to substitute role and non-first team, its gonna be a mess again. Mourinho would need to convince him that and which he is capable of. Rooney has never been an impact sub as a striker, so he might have to settle for midfield control position. Its gonna be a mess, for sure..

I don't think we'll see Rooney as a CAM, I think we'll probably see him partner a more defensive minded defensive midfielder like Schneirdlin (I know a lot of people are writing him off and apparently Everton want him, but am I the only one that thinks Mourunho will absolutely love Schneiderlin???) kinda how Mou paired Fabregas with Matic. I believe that Rooney wants to make the transition to CM and I think he's ready now, yeah yeah yeah I know he had an awful game against Iceland but... so did everyone else in his team, I'm by no means a Rooney fanboy and I'll be honest and say that he had completely won me over until that last game. His passing has gotten much more purposeful than his signature 50 yard balls to the corner flag, and with a more creating number ten in front of him to share the playmaker burden, he could be really fucking good as a CM.

The number ten position is very interesting, Mou's most likely gonna play a 4231 not the 433 a lot of people have been discussing, so it's weird we have not been linked with a proper ten rather than so many CMs. I think Mou might actually give Mata a chance? after all, Mata was his player of the year on that role before he sold him (was it under him? I think so) and allegedly he did like Mata, he just preferred Oscar. With Rooney's work rate behind him Mata's defensive shortcoming would be, to a degree, ameliorated.

I am a big fan of Blind, I think Schneiderlin could be money under Mou, I think Rooney will play CM, and we also have Herrera and Bastian... possibly even TFM. I would much rather go for a proper number ten than another CM... but I know most people will disagree with that. Nevertheless, I feel that the midfielders we have are more than adequate to hold their own on a 4231 formation, and with Herrera possibly shifting in when we switch to a 433 it could work. However, a good number ten that can play off the striker, be creative, take on players, and have pace for counters, could be the catalyst for something great.

If we don't get a ten or a winger I would actually play Mkhitaryan as a ten and Lingard/Memphis/Adnan (whoever shows he deserves it) on the RW. I would try Mata as a ten with Rooney behind but idk, I can't see Mou favoring that.

EDIT: Oh and as a side note, I don't think Memphis behind Ibra would work, he looked clumsy and out of place last season, I'd imagine moving him to the center will only amplify all of last year's weaknesses. But, if it did work... it would be awesome, he can take on players, be creative, and has a good long shot. I just don't see it though.

How can anyone realistically think that Lingard will start next season? I mean just because he puts in a shift, doesn't make up for his clear lack of natural ability and quality. Ibra will be in as striker Martial Mkhit/Rooney Mkhit/Rashford.

I have said he will not be first choice but much like last season once rotation does happen he will perform better than the others. As for your selection I disagree with rashford on RW. It all depends on mata, Rooney or Herrera establishing themselves in the no.10 role which I don't think they will thus leading to this scenario.
