“Most men would rather deny a hard truth than face it.”

― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

I'm sure someone said it much better before him. George is far from original.

I dunno, have you read much GRRM? Some of his sci-fi short stories are like nothing else I've ever read...

Something's ubiquitous popularity spanning so many demographics (including so many quasi-literates thumbing through the childlike constructions of Dan Brown, steeped in simile and presenting zero "difficult pleasure" for the ardent reader) doesn't necessarily suggest universality. Commercial viability we can take for granted immediately. We will have to wait before we draw any final conclusions about his timelessness, but for now I suspect he is simply another successful peddler of vogue middlebrow culture. Readable? Sure. But depending on your demands from reading, also completely forgettable.

Never read them, but I'm just going on what I've heard. Maybe I'm being a bit too judgemental, but I feel that every ten or fifteen years there is this writer who becomes very popular and that writer is a bit worse than the ones who proceeded him/her. Maybe I'm jaded, but it seems to me that anyone who becomes ultra marketable is only okay as far as their art/originality goes. It seems to be the formula as far as I'm concerned. Like that book Twilight, or 50 Shades of Shit. I mean, comeon! That shit shouldn't even be published.

I mean, the show is pretty generic but the books have a lot of depth. They seem to subvert Tolkien in a lot of ways, and have sort of signaled a change in the fantasy genre. Though, cynically, that change is probably just fewer Tolkien copycats and more Martin copycats.

The guy has been writing since 1970 he is a good author and just because his book from 1990 blew up into a popular TV show doesent mean his praise goes only as deep as the show. I feel like your original statement is so judgmental based on nothing except you having some "damn kids, get of my lawn" view of the world. You can check out his books and see for yourself, there is more to him then game of thrones and for what it's worth the song of ice and fire is pretty damn good his books have a lot more depth then can be shown on a TV show.

Not really. Most people in /r/conspiracy are seeking validation of their biases as much as the /r/all folk do.

Not only that, but assuming that everything that's shared here are definite "truths" is a bit naive, or just plain misleading.

but who does that? Most of my favorite users here are people who I disagree with regularly.

[–]At_Work_SND_Coffee 31ポイント32ポイント  (21子コメント)

Man this is so ironic, I'm always here from /r/all I love conspiracy theories and have been a subscriber frequenting the sub since my first account back in like 2008 or so. There is as many lies, propaganda, astroturfing, and outright bullshit on this sub as anywhere else on this site. You always have the white rights/supremacy douches pushing their bullshit, you have the islamaphobic propaganda being pushed constantly, especially after any terrorist attack, you have so many right wing blog sites going through here it's sad, and then the hodgepodge of anti-vaxxer crap, truther stuff, but it's been so long since we've had the fun theories posted like the alien stuff, cryptid stuff, hollow Earth, etc.

You want unpleasant truths, some of you need to come out of your bubble, you're no special than anyone else on this site, you have your bubble like /r/The_Donald, /r/hillaryclinton has their safe space echo chamber, fortunately the mods are pretty good and just let shit be rather than banning people for their opinions and questions like the two previously noted subs.

but it's been so long since we've had the fun theories posted like the alien stuff, cryptid stuff, hollow Earth, et

Fuck all of that shit.

this sub is more focused on justice than entertainment. you're looking for that coast to coast content, but most of us are interested in dissecting the news and critiquing power structures.

I am sad this is the top comment right now.

Could be just vote brigading.

It is.

Or maybe you're just in the minority. This sort of "Only we know the real truth!" attitude bugs me.

No kidding. It's anti-intellectualism cloaked as anti-pseudointellectualism. I hurt my eye muscle rolling it so hard at hollow earth.

He makes no mention of the collective effort to get the wiki going and the awakening and cooperation towards 911 truths that's happening here among antizionists, ancaps, american socialists, anarchists/agorists alike

truther stuff, but it's been so long since we've had the fun theories posted like the alien stuff, cryptid stuff, hollow Earth, etc.

So in your mind truther stuff should take a backseat to completely unsubstantiated alien and hollow earth stuff.

OK GUY

The alternative is removing all the conspiracy stuff the "majority" doesn't like, or appreciate, and become just like the rest of reddit.

Become the change you seek, start posting things you like here... I'll tag you, and keep an eye out on your progress ;)

Holy shit, such kind words from a fellow subscriber. Nice

It's a klingon shitpost. You know this by the use of truthwhining and wanting more hollowearfs

You always have the white rights/supremacy douches pushing their bullshit

as opposed to the all white people are evil bullshit pushed on most of reddit, yes by comparison this place must seem like "white rights".

you have the islamaphobic propaganda being pushed constantly, especially after any terrorist attack

especially after a terrorist attack, god forbid people recognize the religious identity of the people blowing themselves up to harm random civilians...

you have so many right wing blog sites going through here it's sad, and then the hodgepodge of anti-vaxxer crap

Yes its not the liberal left wing average reddit... can we not have a sub that is different? there is nothing inherently bad about "right wing" as a matter of fact there are far fewer right wing extremist on reddit than there are left wing extremist. no criticism of all the left wing extremism posted here from you. dripping with bias.

and the Anti-vaccine crap I've seen here is extremely rarely "all vaccines are bad, no exceptions!" most of the time you have normal people who have real question about actual real documented side effects of commonly peddled vaccines and God forbid they seek answers somewhere that people don't instantly start throwing tomatoes at them for daring to ask a question.

You want unpleasant truths, some of you need to come out of your bubble, you're no special than anyone else on this site, you have your bubble like /r/The_Donald, /r/hillaryclinton has their safe space echo chamber

But how about you man? You want some unpleasant truths? You seem to assume that your consensus-science-left-wing bubble is the only correct bubble. Simple fact is that this country was born in the blood of liberty, not socialism. It was born in the blood of achievers, not fairness. Its not for everyone but fucking hell if we need every western country on earth to be a facsimile of european socialist democracies. There are plenty of those over there on that side of the pond.

Politics on reddit is a dirty business, of course they ban people who flood into a pro-trump sub, or a pro-clinton sub to whine and cry about the represented candidate. Too often on reddit we see whole subs shut down by invaders of doubt, invaders of scorn.

"I DONT LIKE THIS PLACE SO I'M GOING TO RUIN IT FOR EVERYONE!"

Its childish, petulant and repulsive. And yes we absolutely ban the invaders who wish to do the same here.

All we want to do is discuss the possibilities of any given event or idea being a farce, or a conspiracy. Everything is propaganda. When you're a little kid and you think your dad is special that is propaganda. Your dad wasn't special, he was just another near hairless monkey who happened to deposit his seed in your mom's uterus and had the education (from his parents) to stick around and teach you not to be a total fucktard caveman.

I'm not special, you're not special but this sub is special because we refuse to be shaped by dominant opinions who elbow their way into a conversation and proclaim themselves the ultimate authority on truth.

So there is your unpleasant truth sir. If you're not willing to let go of some of these preconceived consensus factoids you hold dear, even if only long enough to fire a few synapses that have been collecting dust, then you're doing this sub wrong and its no mystery why you see it as the antithesis of "what is correct". Everyone who lacks an imagination sees this sub as an thorn in the side of the truth.

If you have no desire to break yourself down and look at the world from a differing perspective then you will never evolve. You won't do great things, you won't understand or love your enemy and you certainly will never understand that loving your enemy doesn't make them any less your enemy.

I feel that this subreddit has the most potential to have true discussion about topics that no other subreddit would really touch.

But you're absolutely right. Many people here fall for lies because it fits their beliefs and it makes us no better.

I personally went from a frequenter to an occasional browser. What this subreddit should be for is skepticism and discussion. No 100% certainty, no superiority. I know I hate when people insult conspiracy theorists, obviously others hate being insulted for not being "awake".

Your examples of what is "always" on the front page here are few and far between, and it's obvious you are making a false projection in an attempt to get bullshit to stick. White rights? I'm here every day, I never see these posts. "Islamaphobic?" Just because you decide to categorize a topic with some lame ass catchall label doesn't necessarily mean it's slanted with bias. Disinfo fills every sub, not just here. Your agenda, however, is pretty clear- and I have yet to see you back up any of your false claims.

You think genuine conspiracy investigators are the only ones who frequent here?

Grow up dude.

You always have the white rights/supremacy douches pushing their bullshit

I've never seen that here, I've seen people pushing back against the anti-white agenda, but never any supremacists.

There is as many lies, propaganda, astroturfing, and outright bullshit on this sub as anywhere

Then says

but it's been so long since we've had the fun theories posted like the alien stuff, cryptid stuff, hollow Earth, etc

Ok buddy, let's bring back the hollow earth and alien stuff and get rid of the "lies" and the inconvenient truths

Man this is so ironic

Sounds like it's time for you to leave this place and go watch the History channel, ancient aliens, and Nazi lizard men documentaries

Bye mate

This.

I don't think that everything here is bullshit or anything, but there is a lot of echo chamber bullcrap that goes on here. It can be hard to take a lot in this sub seriously when it boils down to "JEWS" or some other statement like that.

I agree. I will admit I am a major follower and shitposter on /r/the_Donald, but that is just for the entertainment. I come here for the actual news no one is focusing on.

I'll take an unpleasant truth any day. At least I can deal with reality.

Nice propaganda

That's pretty egotistical to think you're always right.

Dude good to hear anytime I post anything anti Bernie it gets down voted to oblivion.. Someone should post the Ryan Dawson video "Bernie sanders to the woodshed". I bet it gets super down voted.

For the most part, I don't blame people for preferring comforting lies to unpleasant truths.

I wouldn't want to force knowledge upon anyone unwillingly, because it definitely comes with a burden, almost a responsibility in a way, because one can feel like they're doing wrong when they aren't acting to prevent the terrible things they know of.

Some days I wish I didn't know the things I know, but then I remember if no one knew these things, except for the perpetrators, then that would give them free reign to do whatever they want.

So don't change r/conspiracy/, the world needs you to dig and poke and push to find the Truth.

Because the Truth is a beautiful thing and it will piss you off at first, but it just might set you free after.

purveyor of comforting lies here . im making a killing !

Comforting lies like the top post of the Rumsfeld thread about the 2.3 trillion in missing funds from the Pentagon, and the top post is correcting the record by suggesting that Rumsfeld didn't really mean "missing", he simply meant clerical errors about IT databases.. I can't even finish that sentence without cracking up. I'm sorry, what a load of bullshit. Now I knew Hillary had people correcting the record, but Rumsfeld? Really? Maybe they just have people correcting the record on any "official narratives".

Me too! Pushing that globalist agenda and raking in that sick Soros dough

Except your all Bernie burn outs who don't understand the narrative driving you to vote for someone who will increase federal gov.... The shit tier people here would rather convince themselves reptile aliens control the world then understand racial realism and Jewish tribal supremacism...

I fucking hate bernie sanders. I'm a mod here.

I strongly dislike growing government. especially our current, bloated failure of a government.

[–]Sorry_that_im_an_ass -3ポイント-2ポイント  (0子コメント)

I was banned in /r/ politics for saying "correct the record bro, correct it good". Guy was clearly a revisionist for the HRC brigade, but all I said was "correct the record" and BAM, banned. What a shithole that sub is. In fact, most of reddit has become a PR shilling meetup.
