It's always a bummer when I bike to work and see a fresh pile of glass on the side of the street.

They could have 5 full-time street sweepers combing the city for all the fresh glass I see everyday.

This is my new start up, it's a GaaS company, we pick up all the glass in your neighborhood and will make you a new window. Recycle, reuse, full circle.

On the plus side, one more person joining you biking to work.

I was walking at Kearney and the 405 yesterday at 8am when a sketchy dude with a bandana over his face and blue latex gloves walked past me.

Knowing he was a perfectly legitimate businessman, I paid him no mind and went about my day.

before we blame the victim here, the crusties break glass for the fuck of it, though. Happened to me.

It's because they're lonely. Adopt a crusty, make the world a better place to score drugs and beat old men with skateboards

I remember Kurt Vonnegut's slogan. "Lonesome no more!" The idea was that loneliness is the cause of human suffering, so to eliminate suffering, one can eliminate loneliness. He was proposing (not seriously, natch) big artificial families that everyone would belong to, whether they liked it or not. You wouldn't have to like the other Chipmunks, but, like or dislike, they're your family and you're not alone.

I forget which novel that was in. Probably more than one -- he liked recycling stuff from one book to another.

Wampeters, Foma and Granfalloons

Edit: Looked it up, that's actually just the title of the collection of essays that used three words he coined for Cat's Cradle. So yes, Cat's Cradle was the origin. And I suppose r/Portland is our granfalloon. So it goes.

Can you say that same thing with Sarah Mcloughlin in the background?

Hey they are struggling to survive. They're all gay and were thrown out of their parents' house or were badly abused, and everyone knows shunned and badly abused children will only become street urchins that steal and assault people. They are there because Reagan destroyed mental health. If we gave them a free apartment, unlimited second chances, and never arrested them (because they'd end up homeless again, they would change.

Not sure if I'm missing anything.

This could be the summary for /r/portland !

One of my friends watched a lady walk by his car and smash his back blinker light for no reason whatsoever before he chased her down and called the cops

Victim blaming.

Stereotyping. Profiling.

Wow we sure have come a long way.

Such a bummer that this a common enough occurrence for a sub of that nature to exist.

For the Curious, this is a rental with California plates.

The plates had nothing to do with it. Some bozo left things in the car that were visible from outside.

Please think of the Californians, they are being targeted and victimized on the streets of our city by roving bands of nativist crusties

More referring to the fact that it was a rental.

Goddamned transplant haters... CHECK FOR THE RENTAL STICKERS ON THE WINDOW!!!!!!!

Californians are going to wise up and start buying barcode stickers to put on their back windows before moving here.

I said this in another thread, but the hilarious thing is, most of the rental cars in portland right now are probably used by Californians anyway... so same difference.

[–]P0R7LANDOld Town Chinatown -1

Fun fact - rental cars frequently have out of state plates. So this person could be from anywhere, and rented a car at the airport that had CA plates.

What is in the back seat, OP?

Looked like boxes and racks? Lots of electronic charging cables in the front.

Always leave lots of stuff sitting in your car in Portland, I always say.

I haven't been in Portland since August, but I'm returning in September. Has it gotten much worse in that short amount of time, or is it just that hearing about it through Reddit makes it seem that way?

Leave shit in your car in a densely populated area/junkie corridor, your window will get smashed & your shit will be taken. Nothing new there. The unsafe areas might have grown a bit.
