Is it just me or should baby's swimming diapers not be a thing

Here's the deal.

My daughter loves being in he water. So we bought a little pool just for her.

However, I never want to have to scoop poop put of this little pool and thus swim diapers exist and I am glad for them.

Really in any situation where the child is going to get wet the swim diaper is the choice.

What's the alternative?

Drowning diapers, obviously.

Not having someone (a child) with no bowel control into a pool, releasing faeces into the water to infect everywhere.

A lot of water parks and other places with pools have special shallow pools for really young children.

Yea, my kid got of swimming age and my wife mentioned taking him to the pool and I said "But he'll shit in it!" and she showed me these "Swim diapers" That's a solid "Nope" because I'm not a dick.

My uncles Farm pond? Ok...

The local splashpad? mmm... yea ok...

The hottub at the resort we're staying at? Fuck no.

I pretty much stopped going into public pools after I found out these were a thing and realized they were everywhere.

You know teens and adults piss in the pool too, right? And some of them cum in it, especially hot tubs at resorts.

Piss is relatively safe, faeces isn't.

When diluted to that degree, contained, and chlorinated, it pretty much is safe. No more dangerous than the fact that the water is coming into contact with everyone else's butts in the pool, including those that may not practice such great hygiene.

It's funny how much Redditors become a bunch of prissy germophobes as soon as the opportunity to hate parents and their children presents itself...

Prissy germophobes? We're talking about people literally shitting inside the pool you're swimming in, and somehow you attribute that to an irrational fear?

Piss is sterile, but that doesn't mean I'm going to sit on a public toilet seat covered in it and look down on others when they'd rather not do the same.

Piss is not sterile, not by a long shot. It's only sterile to the person it came from.

Your point is only valid for well maintained pools. Apparently, many public pools have issues with staying compliant with public safety regulations regarding pool sanitation.

Ever gone to the beach? Get any of that water in your mouth? Now tell me about sanitation.

Piss is even sterile, most of the time. Zero chance of infection.

That's a myth. Bacteria is indeed present in urine. See also here.

And that's not counting those people who have UTIs, because their urine certainly isn't sterile.

It is sterile, but your pee hole likely isnt.

if you have a UTI, there are bacteria constantly being shed into the urine... so, no, the fluid coming out isn't sterile.

It's not even close to sterile. Your piss is sterile to you as it contains only things you already carry. It's a biohazard to anyone else.

These liquids are clean of bacteria and other microbes (most of the time) while feces carries your own intestinal florae which isn't safe.

Keep in mind one of those things is sterile and the other is a brick of human waste

Kids shouldn't be in hot tubs anyway.

Tell that to their drunk parents passed out in the room.

I pretty much stopped going into public pools after I found out these were a thing and realized they were everywhere.

Every glass of water you've ever drunk has passed through the bladders of at least 1,000 fish. Your uncle's farm pond? Yep, that's the toilet for any number of critters -- birds, bees, dogs, fish, whatever. Went swimming at the beach? Fish fuck in that water -- you just swam in the wet spot of their mattress. And when they're done breathing? That water is their morgue.

Hahahaha...

Yeah, found the guy without kids. Just try to tell kids they can't be kids because of silly adult attitudes.

Seriously, it's not a huge deal for mature adults. Pool chemistry keeps the water safe and most adults are smart enough to know when their kids need to shit. Piss isn't an issue because frankly even teens and some adults shamelessly piss in the water. My wife and I always made them go ahead of pool time anyway. And it's not like you let it marinade in the pool - when you notice tell tale poop signs you take them out and deal with it. The diaper just keeps it together so you can deal with it easily. And you don't put them in at all if they have diarrhea because that's common sense.

But yeah, tell the kids they can't have fun because they are "icky"...

no bowel control

Just squeeze the shit out of the baby first.

Using some kind of mangle or if you don't have one of those running it over in a medium size family car will do.

But think of children! Does nobody think of children anymore?

There's no reason a baby needs to be in a pool. Put them in a kiddy pool at home if you really need to.

There's no reason a baby needs to be in a pool.

Maybe to learn to swim?

Is there any reason or anything wrong with them learning in a year or two?

Babies love swimming and it's easier to start them young than to wait until they're older.

My daughter is three, and I've been taking her swimming since she was six months old.

She can now comfortably swim ten metres, and is at complete ease around a swimming pool. Plus, I don't need to stress so much when she's near a body of water.

Swimming nappies aren't there so they can shit and continue, they're there in case they shit, and you can get them out of the pool to change them. Parents who leave their babies in the pool with a big turd in their pants are doing it wrong.

Unfortunately I feel you may be the exception rather than the rule.

It's good to get them used to the water early so they're not scared when they are old enough to learn to swim.

We put my one year old and my two and a half year old in swimming lessons for the first time this past month. The 2 1/2 yo is learning the skills faster, but he's much more anxious about being in the water without someone touching him, and terrified of submersion. The 1yo loves going under the water.

That's anecdotal and has elements of their personalities as well, but the general thought right now is that it's better to start swimming lessons as early as possible.

Actually, yeah. There's not a lot that babies can do to move themselves around. In water, they have pretty good mobility and can learn to move their bodies in ways they can't otherwise, experiencing less resistance.

Babies can pretty much swim naturally. As they get bigger and heavier, they lose that ability, and have to relearn

Babies are quite buoyant at first, and have the mammalian dive reflex until six-months. I wouldn't call what they do 'swimming'.

How can you expect a young baby who most likely can't walk properly to learn to swim?

By teaching them through repetitive actions. Babies don't learn to swim, you start teaching them when they're babies, and they'll be swimming a year or so later.

Humans retain the mammilian dive reflex through adulthood. You can test this out yourself: jump into a swimming pool and dive down. Now try to exhale all the air in your lungs -- you'll need to make a very conscious "push" to do so. Do the same with a scuba mask on, and it becomes much easier.

Kids up to six-months have a very strong dive reflex which they then lose.

Whilst you might be able to hold in a bit of breath underwater, that's not what the reflex is.

I was surprised how fast my 6 mo learned to swim. We bought her an inflatable tube and she was able to kick her feet and move around the pool.

What ? Babies love to swim just like adults, there's no reason to forbid that.

I thought the reason was poop and pretty obvious.

I'd rather not scoop poop out of my kiddie pool.

Thus, swim diapers.

yeah not only that but then dumping it and/or refilling it. What a pain in the ass.

As opposed to using regular diapers that are designed to absorb liquids until they explode? (A much bigger mess than poop in a pool)

I read a study somewhere that I'm too lazy to look up, its actually older kids (7-12 or something) that contribute the most feces to a pool. Apparently because they suck at wiping their asses by themselves...

[–]dumb_reddit_name 4ポイント5ポイント  (4子コメント)

Would you rather they go in water with regular diapers that fall apart pretty immediately?

I think we'd all rather they not go into the water AT ALL until they can, yknow, control their friggin bowels.

[–]dumb_reddit_name 0ポイント1ポイント  (2子コメント)

This is how everyone knows you don't have kids. We are probably all better for it too.

I have kids and I agree with the parent's statement. You don't (shouldn't) want to swim around your own kid's shitty water. Neither do other people.

Yes! This is a disgusting practice. Fuck you if you let your kid shit in the water like that.
