Rooney's future with England (self.reddevils)

I watched the game today with a group of people all of which seemed to think that Rooney's time with the England team had to be done after this performance. I just wanted to get /r/reddevils thoughts on this. Does Rooney still deserve his spot in the squad? Would it be better for the squad to move on from a Rooney centric strategy?

He said he's staying. Whether he deserves it or not that's up to the next coach. There are a few that don't deserve the cap either

Personally, I think he can probably be helpful as a squad player but I think they need to move away from him being a central figure in the team. Almost the same situation as United.

Whoever the next manager will be will have to tell Rooney to stay at home just like when Joachim Löw told Michael Ballack to not come back with the German team. Only then people can see what the younger midfielders are really made of.

No he doesn't deserve his place in the England team. Nor does he in ours. I am really sick of seeing people still defending Rooney. It's time for England and United to move on from Rooney.

Rooney along with many others, Kane, Sturridge, Sterling are some examples, played exceptionally shit today, but the only one who's head is being called for is Wayne. He was one of England's best players in the group stage games and while I don't think he should start for England saying that United and England need to cut all ties to Rooney is a bit much.

Hey I'm not saying we should cut all ties with Rooney. I am answering OP'S question and amnsaying we should move away from him being the center of the team. He shouldn't be an automatic starter. Period.
