No one thinks he's Scholes (who has made that comparison even once?), and no one is suggesting we use him in midfield in lieu of signing anyone. The reality is that he's our highest paid player and isn't likely to move anywhere else. He doesn't have the legs to lead the line anymore, so our best option is to move him to midfield. He's a work in progress there, and isn't of the quality we would consider world class, but he has the talent and drive to contribute. It's possible that he just had a bad game, no?

Edit: spelling

I think the Scholes comment was connected with a post that reported Rooney watched and wanted to mimic his style of CM play. Maybe some people in that thread said there were comparisons?

Wow some achievement that... You could put a broomstick on the pitch and it would probably be England best player.

All the hate Messi has gotten recently for not stepping up in finals, but at least he can turn up and take his team there. Rooney can't even dominate group games these days, his performances in Brazil 2014 were a joke and he is now captain and completely failed to motivate or lead his team anywhere.

He said 1 week ago that this was the best England team he ever played in hahahahahahahaha. Sorry but if you're going to chat complete shit like that and get knocked out by Iceland then you deserve all the criticism he is getting. Man Utd fans need to forget how good he WAS for a second and see how bad he is at the moment.

Hmm what could be harder... taking Argentina to a copa america final past the US or taking broomsticks anywhere...

The idea that Rooney is still a top player is ridiculous. Across the last 4 years Rooney has had easily more poor games than he's had good games no matter what position he's playing in.

And the number of genuinely great games he's had in the last four seasons is very few.

Yet after every bad game his apologists will be out in force calling it a one off, they're anything but. His great games are the one off's these days

I so agree with you here.. Rooney should no way near be our midfield..

Your post won't go down well with the happy clappers but you're spot on. Rooney is one of my favourite players ever, but I won't delude myself into thinking he is still a top class player. Fergie knew this and put him on a plate for Moyes to move on(But we all know the idiot Gollum gave him a 300k pw 5 year contract instead)....

It's always hilarious how the best position for Rooney is always the one he isn't currently playing in lol. When he plays ST(Oh he's a CAM) When he plays CAM(Oh he's a midfielder) etc etc.

How anyone thinks he is worth 250k a week in his current form baffles me. He might be able to "run games" against minnows, but any decent opposition would neutralize him easily.

Also annoys me how he is captain(Lack of alternatives maybe?), he is not captain material imo. From Robson to Keane to Neville to Vidic to Rooney........ Someone is the odd one out, Rooney is not a leader of men like those guys, no matter how much he shouts abuse at refs every week in the prem.
