Delusions: Rooney (self.reddevils)

Im new on here and frankly ive been surprised by the denial many on here have about Rooney. They seem to think the ability to spray a longslow pass across the field makes one a top CM. Never mind a lack of dynamism, dribbling ability, any decent touch or the ability to actual dictate a games tempo....to have the ability to quicken a teams approach play or slow it to your will - Rooney has not at any point displayed such abilities....but yet, some here still think his abilities are sufficient for a team looking to compete for the EPL tittle.

Compare Rooney to the average performance of a Dembele, Fabregas, Carzorla(Before the injury he was playing CM very well), Ramsey etc - all CM's who one might say lack in some areas, but all CM's who make up with extraordinary abilities in other areas; whether its Ramsey's energy levels, Cesc's top class passing and tempo dictation, Dembele's skill, power etc all have an ability or attribute so strong it makes up for their short comings...our beloved Rooney has none. none whatssoever.

Against Iceland he was faced for the first time in the tournament with a midfield that was sitting off, but instead forced issues and put oressure on him, he's performance was the result. United shouldn't be settling for a midfielder of this ilk. I noticed anyone who points this out is downvoted, which is sad.

AND FFS, STOP COMPARING HIME TO SCHOLES. COMES NOWHERE NEAR THE MAN IN TALENT OR SKILL.

No one thinks he's Scholes (who has made that comparison even once?), and no one is suggesting we use him in midfield in lieu of signing anyone. The reality is that he's our highest paid player and isn't likely to move anywhere else. He doesn't have the legs to lead the line anymore, so our best option is to move him to midfield. He's a work in progress there, and isn't of the quality we would consider world class, but he has the talent and drive to contribute. It's possible that he just had a bad game, no?

Your post won't go down well with the happy clappers but you're spot on. Rooney is one of my favourite players ever, but I won't delude myself into thinking he is still a top class player. Fergie knew this and put him on a plate for Moyes to move on(But we all know the idiot Gollum gave him a 300k pw 5 year contract instead)....

It's always hilarious how the best position for Rooney is always the one he isn't currently playing in lol. When he plays ST(Oh he's a CAM) When he plays CAM(Oh he's a midfielder) etc etc.

How anyone thinks he is worth 250k a week in his current form baffles me. He might be able to "run games" against minnows, but any decent opposition would neutralize him easily.

Also annoys me how he is captain(Lack of alternatives maybe?), he is not captain material imo. From Robson to Keane to Neville to Vidic to Rooney........ Someone is the odd one out, Rooney is not a leader of men like those guys, no matter how much he shouts abuse at refs every week in the prem.
