It's patently obvious that Rooney is not up to task as a striker, and definitely not as a midfielder. This is not based off the Iceland game in isolation but United's whole last season and this whole Euros. United will not compete for any serious titles if they continue to facilitate Rooney because he's a marketing favorite. He's finished as a start, but he won't take a bench role.

How is the Rooney problem solved? China, please.

I'm not an Arsenal supporter, and you're delusional if you think anyone who hates the fact that Rooney is a guaranteed starter for United is someone from the outside. I would think that United fans, more than anyone else, would be aware of the fact that Rooney is finished and a detriment to the team at this stage. SAF knew it years ago.

Where? Against Bournemouth in the last day of the season? Rooney got destroyed in that away game against West Ham and he got blown away in the FA cup semi final second half against Everton, both times when he was pressurised and not let breath. It's as simple as that with Rooney.

Deli Alli & Kane were in PFA team of the season. You've just compared Rooney to a list including 2 strikers who out performed him this season meaning Rooney is no longer favoured at striker and now plays in midfield where we have no better options. Lets not turn this awful display of football into a small victory for Rooney. They were all fucking diabolical including him.

I think rooney is more than capable of playing in the midfield. He was very good for us during the second half of the season. I just worry that if he does go on a run of bad games then he'll retain his place because of his name like last season. We can't keep him in the starting eleven if he's not helping the team. Lvg was determined to let him sort out his form and we spent the first half of the season watching poor performance after poor performance. I hope mourinho will drop him and bring him on as a sub if he goes through a similar bad spell. But rooney on form is a fantastic midfielder. Don't let this game blind you of that fact

I doubt it. Mourinho has said many times he loves Rooney and tried signing him numerous times. Plus I'm sure before the Euro's got underway, Mourinho contacted Rooney to say he will be his captain next season.

Rooney will 100% start for Mourinho. He was England's best midfielder in the start of the Euros + he had a couple of great games for us in the midfield as well like mentioned here. In addition to this, Rooney is much more highly rated by people in the actual football business compared to shitty football fans, shitty pundits and shitty journalists etc. Every single manager and player rates him and wants a player like him on their team. Shitty knee-jerk reaction.

You're going to get downvoted OP but there's truth in what you're saying. Ferguson knew it in 2013 and that's why he tried to push Rooney out of the club.

We have already moved him from striker to no. 10. From no. 10 to midfield. From midfield back to striker. He hasn't exactly set world alight in any of those positions. There's only one place left for him - the one on the bench.
